I need help..
You all know painter classic- the programm that comes with the wacom.. Well since I'm just a poor student, I cant afford the 'real' painter versions. Are there any other brushes out there except the originalones that come with the program? Thanks for the info

Hi,
• If you have Metacreations Painter Classic 1, some extra brush libraries (three, I think) come with it.
I don't know if they'd work in Painter Classic 1, but since it was based on Painter 5, if you can find some Painter 5 custom brush libraries, they might be worth a try, at least. Brush variants created in later versions probably won't work in Painter 5 unless they use the older brush technology and you won't be able to create your own custom variants in Painter Classic 1.
• If you have procreate Painter Classic 2, no extra brushes come with it and you won't be able to add extra brushes or create custom brush variants. Sorry.
You might check eBay for less expensive versions Painter 6, Painter 7, or Painter 8. Be sure to check the seller's rating and get a full, legal, registerable software package so you'll have a better chance of buying an upgrade at a reduced price later on. No guarantee, however, since Corel changes their upgrade qualifiers with each new version release. Currently, Painter 6, Painter 7, and Painter 8 qualify for upgrade pricing to Painter IX.
In any case, Painter 6 is a pretty good version and you'll be able to do a lot with it. Some people prefer it to later versions, in fact.
If that doesn't work for you, the Academic version of Painter IX is less expensive and you might find a good price at one of the online sellers' sites. Check around to find out which sites are legit, though. The only thing of importance with the Academic version is that it can't be used for commercial work. Other than that, though you won't get a hard copy User Guide, the same information is available via Painter IX Help > Help Topics in HTML format. It's easier to use, frankly, than the hard copy User Guide, so you wouldn't be missing anything.
Good luck!
Jinny
