I was there a week back in February with my girlfriend, visiting her family for a week and the particular section we were in had one of the largest snowstorms in history....I had plenty of time to draw and observe the snow. It was interesting for me since I've lived in So Cal all my life and have only visited the snow when there were "regular" amounts. I also had fun drawing the people and the clothing they were wearing just because where I live in SD, a t-shirt, shorts and flip flops are the norm. So...here they are, pics and click on the links for detailed descriptions:

Extremely awesome observations!
Did you use markers to add shading to these? I want to record my travels to different countries with drawings in my sketchbook. I bet it was fun huh?

Whoa! These are awesome. Fine work. Have you tried the zoo?

Yep. You guessed correctly! I did use markers to add value to the drawings :) Recording the observations was extremely fun and I've been doing it for quite a while when I do travel to different cities around the US. It's always nice to see how cities differ culturally and record those sights in a sketchbook. Tarwater, I have drawn at the zoo quite a bit in the past(mostly the LA Zoo), but strangely enough, I have never been to the San Diego Zoo and that is amazing considering I live very close to it and I always enjoy the challenge of drawing animals.

Awesome style, you got a great sense for observation...

the sketches show it perfectly... I got one question... when you sketch what pencils do you use?

I grew up in Maine, and I doubt that even I knew so much about how snow looked...

The intimacy of your studies are really something else, Wes. Your objectivity and observation are something we all can learn from!

A sketch travelogue of other destinations would be pretty exciting to see on your site or on the boards...

Keep up the good work,
-Atomick

Severith, I don't use pencils at all. I only use pens and other ink-based media for my sketchbook. I mostly use a Staedtler pigment liner for all of my sketchbook work. The primary size I use is 0.5

Atomick, I was just looking to draw and record notes so that it would be easy for anybody to understand my studies if they ever did look at them so they could get an idea of how I saw things when I was in that environment. I think it also helped that I wasn't used to that kind of weather at all and I was excited to observe the things around me.
