HAHA, the first thing I thought of painting when I saw the topic was a gigantic golden toilet :P

Hi Everyone. This is my second time here at the dsg. I think its a really good idea. It gets me to draw more regularly. Anyway here's my entry. A new transport ship On its maiden flight.

Kinda missed the desert thing
Stargine ltd. just knew they hit on something good when the Advanced Xenthane 12 engine nearly tore it's test mountings at a mere 42% of it's optimal power. The AX-12 was the first half light engine and the dawn of a new era of space exploration
Painter, hourish I figure

Quickie sketch of the AX-12 remote pilot system. Communicating with the ground through radio waves as well as satellite, using GPS technology and advanced optics/robotics to monitor/control the cockpit, this top-secret device can be installed on a 747 in 30 minutes by a crew of 6. You can see the control module and antennae assembly on the bottom of the fuselage inf ront of the wings.

Here is my attempt. Photoshop CS2, couple of hours.

The solar powered green orb, known as AX-12, has been surfaced from its underground facility and is ready for testing in the year 2190. Also known as "Green Hope", this unmanned flying orb acts as an environmental sponge, absorbing pollution and restoring the environmental balance in the areas it makes contact with. Scientists say its lifespan is about 5 years, at which point its filters will need to be replaced.

I'll get back to this later tonight if I have the time. It's really not finished, but I wanted to post earlier than usual today.

MachZero - Cute. That's a cool bot... you should flesh it out further for us!
Hideyoshi - Nice!

I've never come up with a decent explosion before, but I'm pleased with this one. The idea here is that this is being hit by a missile (trail to follow) on a firing range. It's some sort of troop or fuel transport that'll withstand just about anything. Slow, but unkillable.

Fun topic, if I do say so myself. ;D

The U.S. government, after failing to achieve victory against the hordes of the New Order for Communism, have put forth their latest fundings and time to grow this marvelous barrel cactus.

*the vehicle behind it is a A.R. 360 STOJ (Ariel Remote 360 (being the the degrees of a circle) Surveillance and Technical Operations Jet used by NOC to keep an eye on the U.s. If only they knew what they were flying over as the cactus, being as it is a cactus and not a 600 acre underground testing facility ;) ;) doesn't appear out of sorts on the A.R. 360 STOJ's surveillance systems.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/mister_cloak/stuff/DSCN1361copy.jpg

okies, about an hour with some reference for the cactus, I really want to finish this piece but I am too tired still from the two all nighters I pulled in the last three days to help a friend with the graphics/animation for his game to focus on it for too long.

Well, I didn't do all the things I imagined doing to this... However, I did at least tie up the loose end of explosion's origin. And of course you can see I threw in a buddy AX-12 so he's not lonely out there on the range.

i detect a subtle message in abberrant's rendering....:)

and I, too, have seen info/photos of remote controlled jetliners, including scenarios where they were purposely crashed into stuff.

I came up with a pretty rad take on the assignment, but my scanner broke!! So I get it back tomorrow. Here's hoping.....

CraftySquid - Yikes! Nice claws, good energy.
Lunarsis - Pretty colours, tremendous sense of speed.

I wanted to take another shot at this topic -- Rather different approach, though:

I don't comment enough so here goes:

Machzero:: that's great! I would love to see that animated!

greenmamba :: I like the concept but perhaps a more dramatic angle would have suit the scene better

Vijil :: You thief :P I would like to see more whatever is holding the can because as it is, I see the person, and the hand leads me off the page but there is nothing to draw me back into the scene.

Infinitium:: cool work, not sure about the blue/black glass for the cockpit. as is, it looks like it is sorta floating there, some strong shadowing on the viewer side of that would help out and maybe some stronger shadows along the body of the piece as well. And I am glad to read that you are going to start drawing more!

Hideyoshi:: You do great work and I can't wait to see this fully fleshed out!

Hamsta :: a few more details would be awesome. I dig the glowing though

Aberrant:: just one question...what are the giant grey blocks?

Captain blue panda:: That's cool, but since when does the government do anything that might help the environment?

prcrash:: keep practicing because I want to see how your work matures. Also, it never hurts to look at a few reference photos!

Hand:: cool, though the shadow under him bugs me a little. maybe add a little bit of a blue?

Nkunleashed:: hahaha I like the title, and the work. but the belts all seem really low on the soldiers.

Celcio:: I love the ship and hope you will paint in the blast material

Morr::cool design! looks like the testing wasn't so successful, what with the nothingness coming from the rockets of the ship.

simmi::the ship is nice, the ground could use some details

Craftysquid:: I really like the robot-like-thing. the pose is really good although I am a little lost on the details of the right arm.

Lunarsis:: PRETTTY! I love those colours and hope you finish this one this summer.

Hand (again):: you never cease to amaze me.

MachZero - Cute. That's a cool bot... you should flesh it out further for us!

not much for drawing robots anymore... but here goes... along with some other stuff I wanted to put in the original pic. P.S. treat the explosion as an intense source of light?

Mister_Cloak - thanks~! heheh.

Mostly confusion is what I'm getting from your pic, the cactus (which you should "ground") is the only thing I really understand.
Is there some sort of space ship above the cactus? is there a smaller "branch" on the cactus?

The rocks are also up to a good start. keep working from ref

Yeah, it isnt finished, I have been lacking the time lately for that unfortunately. I have done a little work on it here and there and it is looking better. I will post it up again once I have the pencil work done along with a bunch of other stuff I have done recently so look out for me in the sketchbook section sometime soon!
