I know there are a few ways to set up multi-color brushstrokes in Painter 8, but I can't figure out how to make a stroke that is one color on one side and another color on the other. For example, if you paint a vertical line the left side is green and the right side is red. Is there any way to do that?

Using Painter IX's new Artist's Oils variants, we can do something closer to what you describe. That is, we can mix colors in the Mixer palette, use the Mixer palette's Sample Multiple Colors dropper (also new in Painter IX) to pick up adjacent colors, then paint with those colors in the brushstroke. Depending on how many colors are close enough together in the Mixer palette to be picked up by the Sample Multiple Colors dropper, the brushstroke may contain one, two, or more colors. I've been able to get as many as four colors but it might be possible to pick even more.

In Painter 8, the only ways I can think of to paint with multiple colors in a single brushstroke are described in:

• Painter 8 Help > Help Topics > Contents tab > Painting.

On the right panel, click Painting with Color to learn a couple of ways.

• Painter 8 Help > Help Topics > Contents tab > Painting.

On the right panel, click Painting with Gradients and Patterns.
