Made a new thread so if there are any questions they can be posted here and not in the painter tips and tricks thread.

I created a (nearly) clean airbrush for painter IX:
http://www.destrucreative.com/zaknafain/airbrush.jpg

The lower example was created with my airbrush, the upper example was created with the normal "digital airbrush" from painter IX. It is at 25% zoom when zoomed in to 100% the new airbrush looks like the one in photoshop at 100% zoom (so still a bit of grain). There are rare times where a really weak effect like the one created by the normal airbrush still happens, but most of the time it should work fine.

You can download this brush here: www.destrucreative.com/zaknafain/airbrush.zip
no the right files

Extract it into following folder:

For Windows: /Documents and Settings/[User Name]/Application Data/Corel/Painter IX/Brushes/[Brushlibrary Name]/[Brushcategory Name]/
For Mac: /Users/[User Name]/Library/Application Support/Corel/Painter IX/Brushes/[Brushlibrary Name]/[Brushcategory Name]/

Additional Info about this Brush:
The reason why the normal airbrush looks crappy is because the normal brushdab is not smooth and the spacing settings really amplifys this effect.

Please tell me if it doesnt work on your painter, I didn't test it with other brushtracking settings or with an intuos airbrush.

Thx jin for the info. :)

Hi Zaknafain,

The files included in your download folder are as follows;

c_Digital Airbrush II r 3.xml
c_Digital Airbrush II r.xml

These are what we term 'cached' variant files, and they may or may not incorporate the same settings as the original saved custom variants. I also notice from reading the xml files that both these variants are of the Captured Dab type. With this type of variant, it is neccessary to include the corresponding captured dab jpg files (located alongside the original xml files in the respective brush library sub folder). It is not however neccessary to include the associated 'nib' and 'stk' files, as thse will be generated automatically by Painter the first time the respective brush library is loaded.

Assuming you wish us to have both the above variants, the files you will need in your download folder (in order to get them to work in Painter IX) are as follows;

Digital Airbrush II r 3.xml
Digital Airbrush II r 3.jpg
Digital Airbrush II r.xml
Digital Airbrush II r.jpg

I hope the above information is of use to you, and I look forward to trying out your variants.

Zaknafain,

I didn't expect you to copy and paste my text, but instead to explain in your own words where to place the extracted brush variant file, in a specific brush library and a specific brush category.

Problem:

Your URL brings up a page full of garbage instead of initiating a download.

Please provide the URL to a file that will be easy for most people to extract. .ZIP or .SIT format are the most familiar ones.

Also, and this may be the reason for the page full of garbage instead of an initiated download, your URL contains spaces. Remove the spaces and the current .RAR file may work but only for people who have Stuffit or another such compressor/extractor software. .ZIP can be extracted using both WinZip and Stuffit and by people on both PC and Mac.

Or, just provide a link to the .XML brush variant file.

Warning: If you do the latter, people downloading the .XML file should not allow the .XML file to open in their browser window, then attempt to copy and paste that text into a text editor and save it as an .XML file. When an .XML file is opened as text in a browser, it can become corrupted and then not work in Painter.

That's the reason I suggested providing a .ZIP file containing the .XML brush variant file.. so it would not be possible to open it in a browser window.

doh! stupid me... now the right files in the right archive without spaces.

Sorry for copy and paste the text you wrote. Its just that my english is not the best and I didn't know if I can say this in my own words so that someone could understand it.
Anyway I edited my posts.
