What kind of markers and paper is that fingers ?

I start with a 0.4mm Artline200 and then use a couple of centropen markers (0.6mm and a big ~3mm) to fill... The paper is 5.25"x8.5" pages of a pleather-bound sketch book, I'd say around 80lbs weight. The book has no manufacturer markings of any kind. Got it at the art supply department of a Fred Meyer store :) It's going to be a cool little thing by summer if I keep up the one a day routine.

scoobydoo- i've been doing digi painting for about 7 months. I saw some of Ryan Churches artwork from the star wars episode 2 art book and i just really wanted to be able to do digi painting. I bought myself an apple computer (which i'd wanted for ages) Painter 9, photoshop CS and kinda just went from there. I think the best way to learn how to do something is to just have a go at it, experiment with different brushes. I bought a couple of gnomon dvds as well www.thegnomonworkshop.com they really helped. Don't try and copy off of other peoples teqniques but try to develope your own style, your own methods of painting and such. Im not saying you can't use other people teqniques im just saying try to find a way in which you feel most comfortable to paint. Some people like to do a tight line sketch before they paint, lol i like to just block in colours and see what happens from there.

My advise to you is to just have a go and see what happens, look at other peoples work, look at a couple of tutorials, learn about different brushes and learn about the program your using. Digi painting isn't magic and it doesn't make you better because its done on a computer, only you can make somthing look good. Digi painting is a tool just like a pencil (well maybe not quite like a pencil)
Hope that helps:)

Rondo- im not sure, this sketch started out as an underwater one like the second one, i imagined it to be a desert that was once an ocean and this was maybe some sunken boat that been there for hundereds of years. These guys where passing by and decided to check it out:)

photeck121
May 1st, 2006, 02:46 PM
http://www.deviantart.com/view/32459678/ these are my brushes i use and it sometimes depends how technical i want to make a piece, if i want someting that has alot of detail in it then i usually make a line sketch first but for speed paintings and sketches i just do it from scratch on the cmoputer.
heres part one of a tutorial i made on DA http://www.deviantart.com/view/28063556/
and part two is here http://www.deviantart.com/view/28063651/

seriously photeck121 I dont know what is wrong with deviantart.com, I dont think they are very reliable congrication, they made me lost 2 years of work I had stored in their database and then they just "banned" me and all of my works has gone flushed down the toilet just like that !!! Weather are the same people also who did stole my username egets and are now using it in Ebay, yes !!! I tried to open an account in that name that I have now used for ages very many years so it looks really unrealistic that anybody else ever could have had that name, there is just no gentlemanly manners in this world anymore, or if its just to disquise the animalistic greedy idiot that is residing inside

Dont rely on deviantart with your artwork, of course it might also be because I did not pay for my account that is why.... well that makes sense too, but if that is the case, its very normal and good business behaviour to fucking contact the owner of the gallery and ASK first before just closing it down, saatana !!!

xfar - i really like your "birds eye view" piece. there's some really beautiful light in there. i think the satelite in the foreground sticks out a bit though. just because the rest of the piece is so much softer.

icey - thanks very much. nice piece yourself, though perhaps you're using more colors than you need to?

i'm happy to live this century, because i can follow the evolution in painting of such great artist like sparth .

Yesterday I was wondering if maybe we're at the start of some surge of artistry. There is more easily accessable information about art then there ever has been. You can learn directly from a number of modern "masters" via DVDs, forums, and live workshops. The number of production jobs creating art for the ever expanding world of videogames (especially with the next-gen wave) and film productions have over the past decade, greatly expanded. It seems almost everywhere you turn on the internet theres some other badass concept artist, modeler, or texture artist, and forums like this literally "grow" new talent everyday. I don't think there are any more talented people now than 30 or 40 years ago, just that those people are waaay more connected and have an enormous amount of information directly accessable via the internet. For the younger crowd, forums like this provide inspiration, motivation, and support where otherwise they might not get any (dissapproving parents)

I agree Spoon, I am happy to be living in this time, and not because of Sparth, but because of all this here. Times, they are a'changin.

....right...so I'll get back to painting :P

@Sparth: Seems like a cool new direction for you, at least from an outsiders perspective. Really enjoying it. I was wondering if you've ever considered releasing a brush pack - I'm not naive enough to think the brushes make the picture, but I've been going through some guys like BaRONTiERi's brushes and have really learnt a lot about photoshop techniques, settings and the like. Would be cool to see how you set things up. :)

Hi there,

J.Mac: Thanks man, i like your stuff too.

tensai: Thanks. These are the newer concepts, i forced myself to paint as fast as i can without loosing the point.

vigostar: hehehe, look who's talking...:)

TheWalt: Thanks mate. This is for members of the UK Band Asian Dub Foundation. I co-directed the video, painted all the mattes and made zillion of animations and VFX. You can watch it on my homepage (the link below):

Thanks to everyone again,

Ben,

and a lot of you guys - How many of you are on software, rather than canvas/ board ie pencils and paints?

the work here is fabulous, but I'd like to know more about everyone's various techniques....

um..
1. i sketched some thumbnails
2. picked the one i liked
3. did a larger more accurate perspective drawing, then a refined pen drawing on top of the messy form drawing,
4.scanned that in, rendered it in photoshop....

thats bout it...not very exciting i know.

Hi there,
I posted this already in another section but i'm sure it fits here much better. I can kill it if it douesn't fit in here.

This is THE thread for all enviro-fans like me. Keep it up fellows.

These are some of my recent daily trainings. The goal is to paint under limit of max. 10 minutes (no coloring though). I'm not sure if it really fits the subject, so excuse me if it doesn't. Here they are:

Dude, I'm doing transport design here in the UK, and i WISH!!!! that was my classwork. Compared to what I'm "not" learning, this is gold dust! I've had to teach myself the same technique from Scott's "how to draw cars the hotwheels way" book. Cool ass pic and design Ben!
