a couple of environments. the first is a digital sketch inspired by frederich Edwin church the great hudson river painter. The Robot protects the kid in the future. I intend to build this scene in 3D. Next 2 are 3D environments concepts the second inspired by syd mead. There is also a quick sketch copy of a famous hudson river painter called Bierstadt.

Mm.. I was trying to paint a mountain scene, but then I added a man, and I wonder what should that man looking at.. so the whole things appeared.. :donk:

Here we go, my lousy painting.. :)

Dude, don't say that, and I'm saying this with the best of the intentions. You're suposed to be the first one to defend your art. Remember that what you say is how the rest perceives you really are. We are all learning here, don't forget that. Always proyect yourself as a winner and forget about the rest. Proyecting yourself better also gives more constructive critics. Don't use the "lousy" thing as a critic shield. You think it sucks? find the reason and change it until it doesn't.

Keep it up dude!

great work by everyone, but pringle steals the show. i could not be more impressed by your website. do you do this sort of thing professionally or is it just a well-developed hobby?

jain, great work. you did a great job carrying the green light throughout the foreground; really tells a story.

and justinbeckett, i really like the last painting in there. you might see a little more shadow coming from the bushes in the left background and middle background (on the other side of the gap), though. it would add believability and drama. i'm curious where it originated from (real life obs, a picture, or just incredible creativity and knowledge)?

here are most of the backgrounds i have been doing recently for an animation project at my school. like 4 or 5 left to do. each of them took about 2-3 hours, and are made using photoshop. they are a mix of photos and digital painting. i reduced their size so you can see them better, (& so you'll be able to view them as well.

There seemed to be a problem with my previous post.
Great stuff here!!!
I particularly like Mikko K and Pringle, they’ve got some mad skills.

Mikko K- There is simply no way you cant draw (did I misunderstand?) cause that stuff blew me away, I like your modesty thou. I love the snow scene!!!

here is one of mine
http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/8114/citydiscovered6ch.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

This might seem strange but I’ve noticed that some artists here like pringle and others have a somewhat rough style they can make incredibly striate lines. All the lines will lead perfectly towards the vanishing point for instance. I would really appreciate some help on this since there are others also interested in this in the education & learning section.

Hanuka, it's all digital. Painter and photoshop to make the reflection and bring the levels up.

I do have a question for pringle: how do you get the texture work goin on. I remember reading a thread you posted but you didn't quit get into how you do it. Is it brushes, or just broad, sketchy strokes layered under more detailed strokes? Any particular painter brushes you use?

sone,

great first env! I would say, however, that you could really make it pop with a little more emphasis on teh cave entrance. I would probably add some sort of light coming from within - torches or something... or some more highlighting around the mouth. you could highlight the stones for that. if you do light on the inside, i would use orange to be a compliment to the blue sky.

nice work, keep painting environments!

okay, I'm gonna throw my hat into this ring. I just posted these in my sketchbook thread. They're mostly just glorified 30 min. sketches taken from a photo from apartment buildings roof just after a snow storm. The first one is more true to the photo, which was taken during the day. The second one, at night, is mostly imagined. I wasn't aiming for an exact representation...mostly I just wanted to play around with color and mood.

Love the artwork in this thread - by the way.

Wow Mikko, I'm so glad you're still posting. The first thing I thought when I saw was you're city painting was Tim Burton. Nice. If you still work on that though, I'd say put some more buildings in the background, behind the ones we see now. It almost seems like the city ends there. You don't a million buildings just a few that go back into the atmosphere. Totally love the new painting man. Really great work.

Photeck - that is excellent. The sunlight behind the clouds is a nice touch as well - better than the usual scene set in space. I guess the fact that those ships are floating in the clouds gives the painting more -for a lack of a better word - oomph. Oh look at me rambling - anyway, this is my new wallpaper.
