Hey everybody, I'm new around here. I'm starting a sketchbook, and I have a friend that may be joining so we may share this. To start off, here is my first sketch. I really need to improve my vehicle sketching skills so I thought I would start off with a few cars. I plan on spending 20-30 minutes each day on sketches like this with a set of prismacolor marker brushes in Painter 9. Any input is great. Thanks!

Looks good, but I think you should work a bit on your perspective.

For example, the tires: the one at the end should be smaller, because he's further away, not bigger. And the seats should be showing in the front window too. When you fix that, the whole would look much better!

Please post more, so we can judge better :)

And todays...no marker sketches, but from my history notebook :)

I'm really trying to work on perspective...I'm sorry its not better. I've done alot of character and figure work, but the reason i started this was to work on ID stuff, and perspective isnt my strong point. I'll be moving on to land scapes and city scapes (primarily) after i feel i've gotten better at vehicles. Critiques please!

hello all, im the guy jon waz tlkin bout :rendered: i tend to have this REALLY REALLY REALLY LOOSE style when it comes to sketching as you can see in an example of my work below. :-) this is just one piece for now.. ill post some other ones later when i feel hmmm.. motivated (yes thats another one of my draw backs.. i cant motivate myself lol...hmm other than that.. im pretty good at drawing itself.. not the best but hopefully ill become like one of old masters themselves. as you will notice in my sketch i have da vinci at the bottom.. one of my inspirations.. (to think he locked himself up 8-9 months for drawing .. wow..lol.. just.. wow...

some of those figures are pretty nice, just work on cleaning up the lines. and smoother shading w/ no quite as much contrast. Good quick sketches.

A project I'm turning in for my digital imaging class...its not done by any means, but it will please the teacher because its doing more than the regular photo editing everyone else is doing. Crits are welcome guys, I'm going to finish the b/w version then use layers to color it.

cool concept, i'm thinking compositionally, you may want to cut down on a tad more of the white space in the upper portion of the piece. also, your detail is a bit messed up, the focus in on the background due to the sharp edges of the bookcase and clock, but the focus should be on the book and character on the table, but i'm guessing since it's and early stage of the piece you'll change that as you work in the details.

also, you've got some decent shadows in there, but perhaps more dramatic lighting (from the floor?) would cast a bookshelf shadow on that open wall, and could resolve some of the emptiness up there.

just some thoughts to play with...

I'm anxious to see this piece finished, good luck!

:)
