Hi my name is Anwar Bey-Taylor, I currently attend The Art Institute of Orange County - California, there I study Game Art and Design. I have a passion for Environmental Art (painting and Modeling) ;p

I did this one a little while ago, it's entitled -Danger-. I hope you all enjoy. I would appreciate hardcore critiques please :)

-Thanks

Yeah the art piece doesn't jive with the paper background, but you don't necessarily need to rid the paper all together, try a black border around the drawing and they might blend together nicely.

I like the environment, the archer needs some work imo. The envirnoment lends a cartoonish feeling while the archer is a more realistic figure, I'd either vote to rid the archer or restyle him to fit the overall style of the painting.

Ion: Thanks for the encouragement :)

Ngnorden: You are correct about the Character, I tryed to keep it rough with the overall blues and reds but I guess I went over board adding a sense of realism to the overall surreal world.

Also I guess the paper background did'nt work ha!! :(

I don't want this to sound too harsh, because there is something appealing about this. Unfortunately, the composition isn't supporting any particular focal point, which makes it seem very unsettled (not in a good way). The archer is lost way down among the some similar value in the background. I do like the darker values up front, making it seem more menacing, though.

In working up the archer, make certain that you're putting the emphasis on what's important and simply suggest what's not. For instance, the bowstring is as thick as the bow and both are light with a dark outline. Unless that bow is the hero, it has too much emphasis.

The mountains in the background are just jagged teeth. It's important to present a believable image. It doesn't have to be something that is real, but it has to comply with certain visual rules in order to allow the viewer to suspend his disbelief.

I have to agree with the other comments regarding the confusing right side of the image. First, define the shapes (values define shapes), then introduce textures and all the other cool stuff.

I like the trees, the texture and coloring are really nice. However, I don't really sense danger in the image, I think the composition is too calm. And the characters don't really grab my focus right away, thus lost their impact. I'm not sure what the structure on the right side is, a cave? The yellowish toned interior part seems a bit too smooth to be a cave. Maybe you can work more on that too so that viewers can tell what it is with one glance.

I think this is good pic (exept the character whos not fiting good) (And dont know why its moved).
Kave with teeth are great! Its not important if its confusing.
Well, withouth border its not looks so good... Keep it on!

Dogfood, look, and Danilo thank you guys. Awesome. I really appreciate how you guys are keeping the C&C so heavy and hardcore. This was my first digitaly painted composition, I'm working on others and I'm incorporating all your information into it.

-Thanks

hey man, sorry I didn't get to check this out earlier... um, looks like you've got lots of good feedback from the guys... my two big things are that the guys is lost and that thing on the right that im assuming is the interior of the cave doesn't read at all... its just a orange bit on your painting... the guys gave some input that you otta try to think about in your next piece and keep at it, the only way you'll get really great feedback that you can use is if you post a bunch of stuff, so people can see what patterns you develop and what things you can correct or what you do consistently right...post more stuff man! :)

horia

oh, and don't be shy about using photo ref... look up trees, look up dirt, caves, leaves whatever the heck you want in your pick look it up, even if you think you know what it looks like, you'll find some inspiration there... and look at ref for the character...some pic of a guys standing or running then just add the bow and costume later, its a good way to learn I think. keep posting and ill try and do the same :)

Ha, so we meet again Mr. Anwar! heh, j/k. Not a bad piece, some of the colors working pretty good. Seems like you got enough feedback to make the next step for improvement on this piece. gl.
