for cgtalk master and servant contest...
this is socar myles for those of you that are digital art enthusiast. i dont know her but the dig art community does, so i think they will enjoy that much more because its her.
im not too good with background so ill take suggestions. right now im might just go with a simple color bg with faint swirlees.
oh yeah, im going to make it super detailed, if i can stand workin on it for that long... ie jewerly, sparklies, etc.

Wow this looks really great especially the coloured version, I like how she has all the little rats in her hair. You should post the top one when you have completed it! I really like the idea of a rat queen too, no one seems to draw many animals or lords of those animals on here :blahblah: her hands are really good too, alot of people have trouble with hands keep it up :D

That colored one is crazy. Is that a photo or did you paint it?
You should do a Medusa type thing with the rats. Integrate them into her. That would be creepy.

I was thinking of Socar Myles when I saw the title. =) She makes rat look so adorable and give them so many characteristics.
I like the pencil version, and that last update has amazing fabric texture. It's really beautiful. Her face is too long, and the nose and mouth aren't centered, especially the nose seems to tilt to the side a bit.
Looking forward to more updates. :)

Superb drawing and a great start on the painting.
Where did you get reference of Socar? There used to be a terrific pic of her with massive bed-head over at Epilogue.
I will check out your CGTalk posts for updates too. Good work!

Wonderful picture, just one little thing.. In the drawing she seems to have a little smirk on her lips which I think ads allot of character, it seems it got lost in the colored version, I'd love to see it there as well :)

Look: I was thinking the same.
Patrick : are you refering to the Frankencut ? :D
jimiyo : This looks interesting ! I can't wait to see it develop. Be carefull not to over work it tho. Even if you want to keep detail cranked to the extreme on every single part of your image, try to pick a focus point. Whether you play on it with the saturation of your colours, composition, etc.
It's just my opinion but if you want to go that way, kudos to your patience.

I think the way your rendering this is great, it looks really nice. since you are bringing this piece to such a high level of finish, i think the face needs to be a more feminine. all you need to do is take her jaw in a little bit, make it narrower. right now shes got a superman jaw/chin. i dont think the placement of the features is an issue, just that jaw line.

i recycled some rats from one of my old pictrues.. http://www.jimiyo.com/august_2004/boyer_chibi_derma.jpg
evidence - word. ive gotten similar comments from others so ill defintely work on the feminitiy.
legacy - ;)
egerie - i agree with you. i do tend to 'overwork' details... like the hair. im gonna have to simplify it or otherwise it will probably overwhelm me, still figuring everything out. thanks for the crit! :)
little red dog - soon. probably by the weekend it will be done?? i dunno. its ~8 hours a day on it. i couldnt imagine it taking more than 35.
Jove - used your crit. edited a bit. will still have to tweakmore.
Patrick - i stalk her? ;) haha. no. from another fourm. forget where.
look - will fix. final tweaks are usually held to the end. loose end at end.
thanks for the crits guys. the hair is giving me some problems. ill probably end up simplifiying it. too much work, and i cant keep the same look throughout since im focusing too much on individual pieces.

Good!
Although I liked the older (bigger) light around her head much better! the new one looks cheap, like a caricature or something.
Oh, and turn the lower part of her face slightly to the right and shift it a bit upwards (mouth/chin-area)
