I haven't posted here in quite a while, so here's some sketches and quick paintings of some first-run zombies that I did for a mod in Unreal Tournament 2K3 that involves....zombies. These first sketches are more human-like and not mutated like many of them are in the storyline. The mutated are the more advanced zombies intelligence-wise and skill-wise and these were for the beginning stages of the game. I did these for fun with a group of kids that want to get into the gaming industry, so I thought it would be nice to give them some advice for a while.

Well, thanks. It was pretty fun to work on. Especially since those kids were very motivated to complete that mod and get into the gaming industry. One of the guys who is a programmer was just recently hired at a company that is working on Harry Potter since they are using the Unreal engine and he has experience with it from this mod and maybe other ones if I'm not mistaken. Well, I believe the beta version of the demo came out, but I don't know if they are using any of my designs. It's just a zombie mod with nothing but zombies as enemies and it's supposed to take place in some post-apoctalyptic environment on Earth. Ok, I have to get back to work.

See ya

I didn't know that people were still into zombies!

The designs are cool and all, nice drawing and rendering...
however, being that I am a dick, and I don't know how to say anything but bad...

Technically I don't know how a head with a head behind it like that would work? Where would the other esophagus be? Where would the spine go? To which head and how... These issues are troubleing me about this design... An the one with the tongue hanging out... Man, how on earth would that dude keep from chompin his tongue off with teeth like that... should have done one with a Michael Jackson nose... now that would be scary!!!

you are a little fanciless, eh?

I mean, you are thinking about how two heads would work like this but forget about the fact, that there are no living deads in our world anyway...

Be cool and enjoy the wonderful creature designs you yet saw in games and movies, which never would have been produced when people like you had beefed around...

Fozzybar-

It is not a valid argument to say "Well, there are no Living Dead in our world anyway" A good concept ONLY works if it is grounded with some very fundamental realities. I can think of very few designs that work without them. Weslouie's designs could very well work in "the real world" . Now, you can have some wicked designs on paper but to realize them and have them be believable... they have to follow certain "rules of reality". I have found that the statement " Well, it like that because I say it is" is fine for art for art's sake but does not hold water for conceptual design for practical applications (i.e. games, films, etc...)

Sebsprek-

Ever see a giraffes tongue?
AND Weslouie left plenty of visual info to support the dual faced creature.

stalecracker, that are my thoughts either......everytime i am watching a scifi-movie i think if the things are consequential in their own...if not, the movie loses in attractiveness for me :)

I said this "Living dead"-argument, because i thought sebsprek didn't like the two-headed idea because of it's non-existence...sorry if i was wrong :(

(btw you can see in my creatures i posted on ca, that the functionality is a big point for me)

And to note, those zombie sketches were not the final versions used at all. They were all first-pass iterations to try and see what they were going for :)

No, but I do know a monkey's uncle if that counts...

Why what does a giraffes tongue look like?

These are cool. They kinda remind me of your Odyssey stuff on your website. How long did the first one take?

The Odyssey stuff....that's old school...hahaha. The first one took about 10-15 minutes to paint. Most of it is just flat color and the values I put underneath in the original marker sketch took care of all of the values on the painting, so that was nice. The background is just a bunch of loose, indication strokes, so not too long there either.

SebSprek- Heh, Their tongues are really long and VERY manueverable. It retracts back in nicely without being bitten off (Although I'm sure a Giraffe or two has bitten their tongue) My point (unclear as it was) was that the demon's tongue wasn't necessarily too long.
