Cutom bike makers usually go out of there way to hide/conceal all wires.

Dont' do it!

I really hope that was a bad in-joke Horus...

Lovely detail on the engine and frame but I can't stand the weird woodgrain something pattern you picked for the body. And will those wheels really get a good grip with such a subtle pattern? The handles look a bit short, and I'm not sure what the blade-like thing under them are supposed to be.

Could I see a verison with cherryred or black body?

yeah, I would tone down the environment map. Also the tires look too clean or plastic.... maybe the specular could be toned down and a slight bump map would give it some tooth. A diffuse map with low contrast noise might also help. Nice work!

sorry i havent replied in ages , thought this thread died ages ago!

Yep very good crits. The woodgrain is in fact a dragon design wrapped around the engine, however I agree, its too warped and looks shite .I think a cherry red with black dragon design (poss chinese) may look the bomb.(good call cubik).

The tyres are indeed shite, i didn't have time to work on them and it shows, again good crits. This is gonna need a serious rethink. (thanks benzo)

The bits under the handlebars are mirrors, stylised ones developed by Arlen Ness.

Horus/Ismail: Wires tend to be toned down with show bikes, merely because they dont get ridden very much, you usually have one ignition and brake wire.

Thanks guys, I was about to send this out with my portfolio, but I think ill tinker with it some more .

If I get some time during the next few weeks I'll pop a quick tutorial on about modelling, materials and lighting mate :)

now that is some sweet chrome. though it seems you have to cross your arms to be able to steer it, I don't know how you'd be able to grip the handles?

i wish i had 3dmax all i have is lightwave and i have no idea how to model past making a few clumps of balls...

i'm assuming i should start out in 3dmax though, right?

why should you start out in max? it doesn't matter what app you're using. 'switch the app and it will still be crap' if you want to use maya, start with maya. If you want to use lightwave, learn lightwave. I see no sense in starting out in max first and then switching to the app you really want to use.

ngnorden: The handlebars are actually supposed to be like that as its a low rider, if they were any bigger itd be a chopper. :teeth: But the handlebars do need work, didnt get time to pop in the chrome grips.

Gregory:
If your looking for a 3d package and your just starting out, try as many as you can and see which one you prefer. ngnorden's right, its not the 3d package thats important its the person who uses it.

heres a link to a list of pretty much every popular 3d software package out there, with the price ranges:

the end of the handles seem almost to be pointing towards the riders body, which means he'll have to grip the handle with his fingertips. at least that's how it looks like in the second pic, but maybe it's an illusion cause the first pic looks not as sharply bent handlebar. well this is just a layman observation.
now give us a wire :drool

Ok heres some wires, had another look at the handlebars and they could do with shifting slightly outwards, although my reference material is like that!

cheers

cheers Mort. The next version of the bike is going to be in an outdoor scene, so I get plenty of "road dirt" on the tires etc.
