I'm thinking of going to an art school after my national service which is after 2 years, now i'm from Singapore and would really love and do art, but sadly the art schools here blew cos, sadly to say, my country have a really low regrad for the arts. I read the previous posts but can't help it but feel Ringling and Art Center kinda have some kind of rivalry? Anyway Jason mentioned that ringling is cheaper to live in thus i might go there. I'm unclear whats the difference between Fine Arts and Illustration. And also is it possible to take both Computer animation and Illustration/Fine Arts because i love both 3d and 2d and able to both.

Well, first off, I want to tell you I've got an aquaintence who lives in Singapore who's going to be heading into do his NS sentence soon. He's not all that eager about it at that. Being as how I'm planning to enlist in the US Air Force, I find the concept of forced conscription to be a bit odd, but I wish you the best of luck with that.
If you're looking to goto a school in the US, I suggest you goto the websites of the schools you're interested in attending and request information to read up on before you head into the army. Find out about the programs, what they're about and so on and so forth and if they're for you. As far as how the fields differ and are similar, I couldn't tell you as I'm still learning art myself.
Some help is better then none at all in the end.

if you want to get into the gaming industry the way it is going its best to try and get in CA....CA is the hardest of the majors currently to get into so if you find out by first year that you dont wanan do CA than switch over to illustration...
the truth of the matter is games/movies need ALOT less concept artist than people with 3d skills....and as a CA at Ringling you can also take alot of the most important illustration classes as electives while you couldnt do it visa versa if you were a illustration major
-best wishes
ps. fine arts is awsome...wont get you in games
