I read two short stories by Robert A. Heinlein that scrambled my fragile eggshell mind.
the first one was titled "All you zombies" a twisted story about time travel, and the other was called "They" its story questions the concept of reality. I would encourage anyone interested in a good short read to find these stories. those two stories were the inspiration behind todays portrait. belive it or not I spent hours on this portrait to arive at my final destination. if only pixels could talk. http://www.conceptart.org/artist/andrew-jones/images/aug19zz.jpg

I'm amazed at how you've managed to break it down to such simple forms and still retain your semblance. There's no problem at all to see that it is you. *in awe*

This rocks. Symbolism, mystery, uneasyness, foreboding, horror -- works on a lot of levels, imho. Looks simple, but it's not. Somehow reminds me a little of some of jeffrey jones' stuff -- maybe the way you worked on it? jeffrey describes working/painting as kind of a back and forth conversation with the canvas...you do start with with an idea or subject, but you push paint around until the painting begins to say something back...sometimes you guide the conversation, sometimes the painting does...a really interesting but difficult (for me) way to work.

oh daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn...
andrew, this one is great. it's just the few things like that little mark on your forehead, the raw shape of face and hair... but it's definitely the guy from the previous spods...

Eh, i think i understand the idea, but to me it seems imcomplete from what ive seen you do in the past. Maybe a few more highlights or color variation.

i think it's amazing.
nardfrog; i think you are just too used to traditional art to understand that he was trying to go for something more experimental and "searching"

All your portraits are amazing! Your hand must move automatically with the contours of your face after having done so many!

eh andrew...
you have tried so many styles and things... realism, old-masterly-painterly, fantasy things, stylized in the most different means... even different hairdos and wearing a bandana.
but how about making a portrait from side-view?
