Hi, I was wondering why this happens?...I can use it in Photoshop..But no go in Painter and I have tried everything!
I am using a intuos3 and am getting frustrated with Painter, but still like its potential.
Can anyone help?
What am I doing wrong? Thank you

Did you set the brush tracking in the preferences?

yes. I have done that..It still made no difference
It seems like only certain brushes react to any sensitivity...does anyone else ever experience this?
I played around with the tracking but it does'nt really make any sense...why don't they just have an option to use it like PS ?
Still searching for an answer..........

Hi,
Study the Brush Controls palettes and notice the the Expression option is sometimes Pressure and sometimes one of the other options, in any palette where Expression is available as a control, depending on the brush variant selected.
You'll see the same controls in the Brush Creator, Stroke Designer tab's sections.
It might be that you're using a brush variant that's not set to Pressure as the Expression option for whatever aspect of the brush variant's behavior you're thinking of. For instance, if Size Expression is set to None, when you paint the brushstroke won't be thick and thin in response to pressure. Same for Opacity, Grain, or whatever other control you might want to respond to Pressure.

Thanks guys that helped a little...I guess I'm Not used to how SENSITIVE Painter is ...I used both of your tips and came up with an ok brush that seems to work, it still is a little wonky as far as a large brush being able to use the sensitivity though.

Not sure why it would be "wonky".
How about telling us which brush variant you're using and where you want to use pressure sensitivity (i.e. Size, Opacity, Resaturation, Bleed, or....)?
Also, what size is your brush variant?

Just for lack of a better word...
Im tryin to go from thin to thick so size is the issue here..Im using wet acrylics and sometimes a camel oil ... I would like to be able to use a fairly good sized brush around a 30 or so but when I apply less pressure I want it to be smaller...How do I do this?
Thanks for your reply Jin
I appreciate it

Hi reBirth,
• In the Help menu, check Show Tool Tips. If it says Hide Tool Tips don't check it as it's already enabled.
• Open the Brush Creator, Stroke Designer tab's Size section.
• Notice there's a small box to the right of the Size Expression drop down list.
• Hold your cursor very still over that box for a few seconds until it's name is displayed.
When that box is checked, the Expression option's effect is reversed.
For the Acrylics' Wet Acrilic 30 variant, when the box is checked, more pressure results in a thinner brushstroke.
For the Oils' Fine Camel 30 variant (which is the variant I guess you mean), when the box is checked, it's also true that more pressure results in a thinner brushstroke. However, this variant will take more practice to avoid a sudden jump from thick to thin and two odd looking sprays of paint at either end of the brushstroke when pressure is changed too suddenly.
Again, read Painter 8 Help > Help Topics on the subject of using the Brush Creator, Stroke Designer tab's sections and all of the brush controls. It'll help you a lot, believe me.

Have you tried lowering the min size down in the expression area in the brush creator to what you want and applying harder pressure in the brush tracking to give you a more gradual change, and make sure that expression is set to pressure. This will give a thin stroke with light pressure and larger one with harder pressure.
