View Full Version : Brush losing it's properties

This is my favorite brush variant in painter IX

Crayon - soft cover, flat head (no. 6) I play with resaturation, bleed and dryout.

anyway, this gives some very nice blending, except that after a while (this seems to happen faster on larger brushes) the brush "forgets" it's properties and paints a very solid, non blending color.

Is there any way to stop this effect? (which is useful on rare occasions)

Hi,

You don't say what Crayons variant you're using, which might help if you have other questions.

Have you tried saving it as a custom brush variant? If not, it would be a good idea to do that so you won't have to reset the controls over and over again.

Whenever it seems to lose it's settings, just go to the Brush Selector menu and choose Restore Default Variant.

You can also add that command to a Custom Palette as a menu command button so the command can be invoked with a single click.

Or....

Use Edit > Preferences > Customize Keys, from the Shortcuts drop down list, choose Other, click the plus sign next to Brush Palette and add your own keyboard shortcut for the Restore Default Variant command.

Somethings odd things like this happen when too much memory is being used, so it can help to save your file, close Painter, close other programs, then launch Painter again. If that doesn't do the trick, try rebooting too.

Heh, it is a saved variant, the settings themselves don't change.

I guess it is a memory thing, restarting won't matter since every brushstroke acts the same - like a brush running out of "not-paint" :)
