AmishCommy, dunno about that - it's Adobe who bought Macromedia, not the other way round, and I highly doubt they'd try to shove any Macromedia stuff into Photoshop. Any updates they do release will the ones they were planning anyway...
I hope they don't touch Dreamweaver... it's a very good program.
I want to see them do something good with Flash, since in my experience Adobe products tend to work the way you expect them to, and the user interfaces usually make sense. Not so with Macromedia! They really made a horrible mess of Flash MX's UI, not to mention half the tools make no sense, and identical code works in some cases but not in others. Maybe Adobe can straighten that out.
Now then, who's next on the shopping list? Microsoft'd do well to buy Electronic Arts, I reckon...

i ment that there was no longer any competition so they would just update with crappy, worthless things. I felt like that when PS 6 came out and they changed up the interface and i hated it.
My hope for the new supper giant is better program integration, and like you mentioned, improvement on some of the UI issues.
I love freehand way more than illustrator, but the only thing that anoys me about it is the layers. i love adobe's layer interface.
For PS i just want some of the cool features from painter, like being able to turn the paper without rotating the canvas command and adding unneccessary white canvas space. and maybe some bleter blending options for brushes and colors.
I leaned GoLive instead of DreamWeaver and i hope adobe makes GoLive more like dreamweaver.
there is a new PS CS update coming in a couple months and i heard the busted out some new feature that lets PS scale up file sizes without the janky ressolution issues. I doubt its as good as it sounds but one can dream, right?
Oh well, let us hope for the best from this merger.

Funny enough, i sware i knew this was coming up like 2 years back when they put flash mx on the market. Macromedia is producing some good software, no doubt that with all their new names like fireworks and such, fear is on adobes side.
Hopefully Corel is going to stick around for a short while.

Keep in mind this is a business move, I think its called a Synergy...I doubt anything good will come out of it for us... Im sure both programs will change here and there, but will it be a change just for the sake of change...or one thats for the better.

it is kind of frightening to me to have most every piece of relevant creative software coming out from under one roof.
I think this is a horrible move. I definitely use Adobe and Macromedia programs for almost everything I do related to graphics, but I use each for different things. If this merger results in the elimination of certain programs for the continuation of others (e.g. eliminating Fireworks for Photoshop), then I would be absolutely miserable.
If Macromedia were taking over Adobe, I would not be as concerned. However, Adobe is pretty far behind in the development of some of its programs, especially its interfaces and user-friendliness. This type of merger could have a devastating impact on our ability to produce new, cutting edge work in an effective and efficient manner. Without any alternatives we could be limited by the very means we rely on to do our projects and work.
Also, if there are no alternatives for these programs, then how is this type of merger not a monopoly of the market? Clearly the interests of the people who actually rely on these programs is not being taken into consideration, or at least it has not been conveyed that way.
