I couldn't find an 'art help' forum, so I'm hoping here is the right place to ask. :X I didn't want to take up space in the other art forums.

I'm just wondering, are there any good ways of preventing smudging in sketchbooks? Right now I've been using only the paper on the right side (I'm not very far in my current sketchbook, so it's not as big of a waste of paper as it sounds :P), but I'd like to be able to draw on both sides without fear of smudging or the graphite eventually dirtying up the opposite sides. One of the resident art teachers in my school suggested a spray or something similar (I don't recall the name) to bind it all to the page, or something to that effect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

You are looking for a fixative spray. They come in matte finish or gloss.
Here is an example:

spray fixative, is what your teacher was talking about.

you can either: use workable fixative (which is non-permanent and means you can still draw over the top of it after it's fixed, might still be a little smudging though)

or: use a fixative like Krylon Crystal Clear (which is permanent and should only be used if the drawing's finished)

or: put a sheet of tracing or wax paper in between the sheets you want to protect.

Thank you. :) I ought to post more of my work here.

You could also try using harder leaded pencils. It'll mean less ability to smudge when you want to and lighter drawings, but I find when I use a 2H or harder, I don't have any problems with it.
