this is just some more of me practicing, trying to get shapes and color and form correct. doing more "posing" although they both seem to be in the same position. well, C&C welcomed and strongly encouraged. Thanks!

If you're not already, I would recommend using reference material for the poses and then later going in to add detail to define the character.

It's like having a limited vocabulary. If you only know a few words you keep saying the same ones over and over again.

Works for figure construction also. The more poses you have in your mental vocab, the more you can construct without reference.

If you are using reference I would say start simple and move towards complex.

This pose is slightly foreshortened since the chest region/forearms/legs are coming forward, which is a bit more difficult than a non foreshortened pose.

Also, this is a process I've adapted that I find useful when drawing characters.

1. Direction (1D) - draw the gesture lines first to get the direction of the body in simple line form

2. Width (2D) - start to block out the body parts to show how wide they are and the space they take up.

3. Depth (3D) - draw quick contour lines around the shape to define the form's depth. i.e. make rectangles into cylinders etc.

After that you would define a light source, add hot spots, shadows, color, details to better define the form, etc. I think the first 3 steps are the most important however.

Keep it up!
