So I finally get around to my first post, and my pics come out screwy. At least the detail is for crap, but I can't do but so much with my 1.3 mp camera. Anyway this is just something I did while waiting for a shipment of supplies so I can do my normal sculpting, but for a piece totally off the cuff I don't think I did too bad. Critiques? Comments?

Anyone esle just sculpt from scratch or does everyone but me do a conceptual drawing first?

Ok, updated with pics of him painted. Guess there are no takers?

I've decided to call him a goborg, since a friend said he looked like a cross between a goblin and a cyborg. ;)

Hey, this looks pretty cool, I like it.
I also usually sculpt from scratch, although I guess having some drawings to work from might help at some points, too... probably make the process go a bit faster.

Goborg is a good name for it ... overall seems sculpted well, although the painting could use a bit more detail - the metal parts around his head in particular are looking kinda fake and flat, maybe need a bit more texture or colour somehow.
The shininess of the exposed brain is great :)

Good point, I'll see if I can try to give the metal bits more depth somehow. Painting is definitely my weak point, although I have improved greatly over the past year, I still have a LONG way to go! An aribrush certainly couldn't hurt any.

I never really have done any drawings ahead of time, although my background is in 2D art, I never really come up with things that way. Mostly it's just playing around with the clay until something comes out.

Nice brain!

Very gooey looking! I dig it.

Makes me think of the monkey scene from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. :blah:

The gooeyness was kind of serendipitous. I pulled out some sculpey glaze I had and it was so thick it hardy came off the brush. Made for extra gooey brains. :)
