I'm 15 year amatuer concept artist and I just started looking into Corel Painter IX. I saw that they had the normal version, and an Education Edition availible. Since I qualify for the Education Edition, which costs alot less than the normal version, I was wondering, is the Education Edition a stripped or "light" edition of the full product or is it just as good as the full version?
Sorry if this has been asked before. If it has been, please answer my question and then a moderator can delete this thread.

Hi,
As far as I understand it, the Academic version of Painter IX is the same as the full version except it doesn't come with the hard copy User Guide or Handbook and it may not be used for commercial work. Since you're a student and probably not doing commercial work anyway, that shouldn't be a problem.
Both of those books can be purchased separately. I think the User Guide is $49 U.S. and the Handbook is $25 U.S.
You can easily do without them, though. Painter IX Help > Help Topics accessed from within Painter is basically the User Guide in online format and it includes a Contents tab, Index tab, Search tab, and Favorites tab. The Favorites tab is used to bookmark pages you'll want to return to later.
I have the hard copy User Guide and never use it since it's just as easy to use Help > Help Topics.
To be absolutely sure of all this, I'd suggest calling Corel to ask them exactly what's included with the Academic version. You'll find a list of phone numbers at:

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "Contact Us" link.
Good luck! :)
