Two of these things are finished...the second one is still not finished so I'm posting it in the sketch section. Feedback would be great!
This is a self-portrait I did in oils...

An oil painting I did of holding up cashew brittle (the candy...weird I know) up to light, which created a really cool effect...still not finished this one:

Finally a digital painting/drawing I did of a pro wrestler Samoa Joe (this was for a t-shirt but I doubt it will get made):

I think no one has replied because it's border line.
Hey, I like the first painting. I can tell you painted the man first then did the BG. You should do it the other way around. I do a little oil painting myself and can help you a bit.
Do your drawing on canvas. Then wash the canvas with a dark brown mixed with dark red and turpentine. Your drawing will still be visible. Then gradually use thicker and thicker oils to get the BG done. You don't have to do the whole BG right away, just the stuff that that's around the subject.
It's a good start and it just needs more work.
The digital painting: The hand is great, but you have some anatomy issues, particularly how the pectorals, neck, and shoulders relate to each other.

lol I'm not sure what you mean by borderline...either that or I don't want it to mean what I think it means...
Thanks for the criticism...with the figure (that's me...lol) I was trying to do like a halo technique that is used in many portraits. But that is a good idea to start with the background. That was my first oil painting, I was taught by my mom who is a quite successful artist in oils and is exhibited in New York and Philadelphia (lol enough with the mom-shilling).
Thanks for the crits on the digital....I kinda suck at digital art right now, I don't know really if it's gonna be something I pursue. Although your anatomy suggestions are valuable regardless :confident.
