this is my first time using photoshop. I normally dont draw anime-like, but i figured since its my first time in PS that it might be a bit more forgiving than a real life picture...someday, i will be better. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v23/liarbot/arch1.jpg

I like this piece. It's good, but here's what I think could make it better:

Since you're using photoshop, you could use more than one skin tone (use a seprate layer for mids, shadow, and highlights). Keep the opacity of the brush really low (I keep mine at 30% for mids, and 10% for shadows and highs). Just keep building up the paints.

You have some anatomical issues to deal with.

The best part of this picture is the background. It's very well done. The man looks cut out and pasted on, which really brings down that beautiful forest. Good sense of lighting too.

The forest looks like it was a photograph that had Cut Out or Posterize run over it, but if I'm wrong, good job.

You should really work on getting anatomy right, it will make a huge difference.

You need to blur or some thing around the edges of your character he looks cut and pasted on, I don't use photoshop so I'm not sure if there's any thing better.

Secondly, why does your character have blue crud all around it? Please tell me you didn't crop him out and stick him on the background.

And your background does look trace bitmapped, but if I'm wrong too congrats.

Hey liarbot

Where in Hawaii are you from?

I'm from Mililani, but moved to Seattle a few years ago. Did you go to UH Manoa?

in reply to all the responses at once, keep in mind this is my frist time, so i dont know all the little tricks. it is cut and pasted on a posterized background, the blue edges are from what the sketch was scanned from. and i'm from kailua, and i havent gone to UH manoa, i did drop out of HCC though. sheet metal just wasnt my thing. thanks for the replies, i need to learn how to use PS better..
