revenge of the green man. crits thoughts?

first art post! This is a piece im working on at the moment - is a collage, made with photos, drawing and mixed media. Im basically experimenting. Im doing alot of art based on the green man, this is his horned god version. An old god worshipped by pagans. I wanted to look at nature reclaiming what we encroached on. I used flowers and dead leaves as the border to represent death and rebirth. I wanted a border to make the piece feel abit more aethtetic and decrotive, sort of like an old epic mythological illustration.

I dunno im not sure about this, hoping i could get some feed back? im worried its not working, it looks a bit noisy, too much visual confusion. anyway im going to be doing loads of peices on this theme. . . so thats why its in works in progress.

I really kinda like it, very weird, I do the large amount of flowers might be to much, it is busy around the edges, my eyes did tend to keep moveing toward em, just me though, good work.

I think its great,
But I have to agree with vio on the flowers, its too busy, and draws your attention away from the actual painting.

also, the flowers don't quite 'fit' in with the overall feeling of the artwork.
the PAINTING makes me think of Death and destruction and pain.......and here you have these beautifull delicate flowers, that make me think of life, and harmony. :x I just made an ass of myself there, huh?

haha i was actualy trying to achieve a sort of contrast, between the destruction and the beauty of the flowers. the green mans all about nature, he can be gente but can also be formidable. you know when theres a forest fire, and after all the desctruction little sapplings and blossoms apprear? thats what i wanted to touch on. BUT yes i aree with you guys, i think they do take away in the composition.

anyway i did this today, is a woodland sprite ... maybe a hobgoblin. just carrying on with my pagan folklore at the moment... need to build up a body of work for my project.

im just going to dump, bits from this project onto this thread... this is the latest, trying to progress and come up with a direction to go on.... another photo- mixed media- painting experiment.. maybe il give up these mixed media blags, and concentrate on paint... still dunno what im saying... this is the green man, representing nature, and us the city.. dont think my meaning is clear-woont a contrast.. how we've turned from nature.. ill have to work on visual narrative in one piece a bit more. oh well ill do a day of art see what happens by tonight.

Something about the top half of your first peice bothers me.... perhaps because the bottom is so "busy" with detail the drawing seems unbalanced, and unfortunately not in a good way. Very cool style and method to the work.

I really like your third piece. No crits on it.

thanks for the input! ... updatezzzzzzz ... not alot going on with this project its reaching frustration levels... im more woried about concept, once thats nailed i can dish out the art... heres some concepts for maybe some detailed work i just sketched in photoshop
- if the green man is the personification of nature... whats the pesonification of civilization... cliche maybe, perhaps i could think of something better====
Civilasation! eats the trees and natural resources to fuel itself.... ha!

heres the green man, horned nature god.. chilling in his woods... talking to he birds... perhaps the bird tells of the monster devouring his lands to the north. :dead:
