Apologies to international viewers, but I don't know what it's called in english so this goes by swedish :]

Mvh Olle Johansson

You don't mind if I translate? :)
Du blir inte ledsen om jag försöker översätta? :)

This is (loosely) what he´s saying:
He's 18 years old, and finishing what I guess would be college (maybe high school ??)in english, it's hard with the english terms. And he's thinking about jobs/career in art.
The problem is he's had more math and science subjects than what's appropriate for an art career.
He needs a foundation in art knowledge and a portfolio, for trying to get into a university or some other education (hopefully something bigger outside sweden).
He's wondering if anyone knows of a good education in Sweden or possibly sweden, norway, finland and denmark.

I'm after pretty much the same thing. I'm 18 years old and I'm finishing school this summer too, and I too chose the wrong subjects for art. I want to become a concept artist and I feel I have the potential but not the necessary knowledge, I'm completely self taught.
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good/great education (hopefully in sweden, but pretty much anywhere in the world works) where the emphasis is on art, and hopefully mainly digital art.

Any takes?

Hey, maybe Nackademin? ALot of my friends went there and apparently it was good a few years ago, but they are doing great things now, one is in NZ working on King Kong!

Hey that seems kind of interesting actually! On King Kong ?!??! :D Wow!
Thanks for the info! :)

Edit: Do you know what sort of program your friends went to? Design? It seems the program most suitable for concept artism is "digital graphics", but they seem awefully concentrated on 3d...

I was also wondering what I should be looking for (on the internet) when searching for suitable education? I suspect there's no "Concept Artist"-education...

Thanks for the replies :)
Nackademien sounds great! The only problem I have now is that I'm broke and that I might have to work a year before applying for the school, or I couldn't afford paying my living (I know there's loans, but I don't wanna start taking them yet).

Their graphics design sounds like the thing I wanna do. But not the 3d stuff, I prefer to learn the basics in drawing. So I can work on a portfolio to study in a big college/university/artschool or whatever it's called.

edit: if you want to do concept art. I suggest you start off with basics in "folkhögskola" so you wont have to take too much loans, cause you only get 6 years of studies. And I don't think there's specifik educations that do concept art, but I think you need the most basic skills before applying to that kind of education. Shapes, anatomy, techniques, colors, maybe sculpturing. I know I'm gonna study them first, then apply for a "conceptartschool" or a bigger one. :]

Anyways, thanks for the tip. Cya there? :)

Yeah well, I'm pretty much thinking what you're thinking, but what "högskola" (should we be talking english, or could we talk swedish ?? ;) ) are you thinking about going to? I realize a regular art school of some kind would be loads helpful (and I plan on going to something like that), but I'd really like the school to realize the importance of digital, y'know?
By the way, that emphasis on 3d is turning me off nackademin too.

Also, loans make me cringe, I'd love it so much if I didn't have to take loans to study, so that's part of why I'd like to not study for too long.

Also, concept artist is one of those lines of work where, if you're good, you're education doesn't really matter that much... I was hoping to learn for a while, maybe two years maximum, and always just practice practice my ass off, and after that send of a portfolio to lots of places and get a job somewhere... Once you get that first job getting other jobs get easier, right?

Cya there? :)
I hope so! :)

Högskola, I want to try to apply for all the big ones (after I've done my two years basics) like artcenter, maybe gnomon and such. I haven't got that far yet, but I want a 'real' art education.

The thing is that here in Sweden you get 2 years in 'Folkhögskola' where you get loans and 'bidrag' and after that 6 years in college or university, even if it's international (as long as it's a serious school).

About Nackademin, the basic graphic courses could be worth taking if It's a good school, and you/I would probably have use for the 3d stuff they teach.

Anyways, I'm gonna call some interesting schools at monday. You have to apply before next weekend I think :(
I'll be back, cya :)
