Hey there. I'm new here, but if you visit eatpoo you may have seen some of this. I don't know why I haven't posted here before, this is a great forum. Anyways, on with the art

I try and draw and scan a page daily, so here's a week or two I think...

I've been frustrated with drawing figures from memory lately so I started drawing a bit from photo reference (for lack of a willing model, and I only have life drawing once a week. :\ )

Some photo referenced stuff here but mainly from my head

getting frustrated again...

This is a work in progress part of a book I'm working on for my illustration course—A semester long project where we have to write and illustrate a book. Mine is about robot pirates and is a thinly veiled metaphor for internet piracy. If anyone knows a good method of drawing straight or smooth steady lines with a tablet, let me know (see the netting on this one)... I get so pissed when i spend a bunch of time trying to get the lines smooth and they never get there...

I finally remembered I had an anatomy book so I broke that out, and started doing some studies. Hopefully it will break me out of my rut.

You have really good structure, and as far as my current education, it looks great. I like the hands and faces. Good job, keep it up! =D

Welcome to CA, if you have the opportunity to attend life drawing session you should improve in no time, when drawing from memory try to keep proportions in mind and do a quick check before you start rendering I think your heads are a bit big..

keep drawing

I'm new here too. Enjoying your SB.

I agree with charcoalArtist about the heads, though I didn't see it at all until his post.

About your straight line issue (I'm pretty new at this stuff, so anyone who knows better feel free to correct this) and depending on what software you're using:

Straight lines - use a ruler? or digitally (PS) press & hold shift key and draw for horizontal and vertical. For diagonals you can draw a dot then shift + dot the other end to join the two points.

Curves - use a guide, french curves, bendy ruler thing (don't know what they're called) or draw a huge circle/ellipse and delete the inside to leave the line. Freehand, draw faster and freer, from your shoulder rather than your wrist.

Hope this helps.

Are you going to post more of your robot book?

More robot book images coming soon...

for now, i'm working on my pencil-rendering.. I usually stick to pen sketches but I've realized that maybe because I'm under-educated in the ways of working with pencils... So here are some studies and other such things...

some bird studies

a little brush and ink thing:

statue sketch from a museum. Note: if you ever need a quick little ego boost, go to your art museum to sketch. there are usually lots of children there on field trips that will happily compliment your work. :P

a portrait of a friend i did real quick... and i think i am going to refine some more when i get some time... chin juts too much, forehead a little funky, and colors need some more depth. bg too. :P
