hello again!

im not new, just too lazy to keep active i guess.
ive started a sketchbook once but in case it was posted in the wrong subforum, so this is my second try. i think its the better way to let my drawings speak, instead of trying to write in english, what is definetly not my strong side.
hoping to be able to entertain you guys, heres some new and old stuff, just to introduce me once more.
ive been watching this community for years now and its kinda sad i never turned a real active member...afraid of producing unworthy work mabye? :^^;:

anyway...here we go...thank you all for so much inspiration! my little present for you below these lines.

Hello, dariocoelho. Well, I always ask a permission from the artists to save their art on my computer for several reasons. One of them, I kind of want them to know that I copy their work, because it's their propriety, you know, it's kind of a delicate situation. Yeah, I know, they will never know, people can do all kind of things with somebodies art generously exposed on public forum, but... I just want to keep it as clean as possible. I'm just gonna look at your art, nothing else. The second reason, well, you probably know the second reason :).
Now, I'm gonna brag a little. I already have a huge collection of awesome, inspiring, earth shaking, unique, spirit raising art treasures. I'm so lucky to have them.
So, are you OK, with me saving your art on my computer? If not, that's all right too.

In order to hear more, you need to create more :).
I'll just add, I'm very fond of your art.
About your last update. It's a beautiful design. I would love to save it too ;).

Hello, dariocoelho :). It was awhile from you last update. I'm glad you are back. I opened your book and my heart jumped again. As the first time I saw it. So much beauty and delight for eyes in it. You are very generous and sensitive to beauty around you artist.
Great work.
I really like the design for T-shirt. It will look great I think.
My favorites in new update:

http://www.8ung.at/dariocoelho/gallery/speedpaintings/ghostboat.jpg
Lovely and moody painting, I love blue color, so calming and deep.

http://www.8ung.at/dariocoelho/gallery/speedpaintings/eliane.jpg
I think the colors are kind of in contradiction with her dark complexion, but i really like her face, her engaging expression, a question and interest to person she speaks to in her eyes, the charming turn of her head.

http://www.8ung.at/dariocoelho/gallery/speedpaintings/dynamitemike.jpg
http://www.8ung.at/dariocoelho/gallery/speedpaintings/zork.jpg
I like the rough manner and candy like colors :).

http://www.8ung.at/dariocoelho/gallery/speedpaintings/pick.jpg
I like the mysterious mood, this scratchy effect from star's garlands on the green background, silhouettes of the child, her toys and people from her dreams.

http://www.8ung.at/dariocoelho/gallery/speedpaintings/hideout.jpg
I like the composition, colors, brushstrokes, light and theme.

And I like your figure studies because it's obvious from them that you are excited and very dedicated to the whole process when you do them. I feel your interest to object and that you are not calm. Maybe I'm wrong. But I think you are. Thank you so much

-sveta: yes, im not updating very often, but as a result of patient scanning, like im calling...im really too lazy to scan every day. just let me thank you for your kind words and especially for your energy you use to make me understand whats so special about my book! well and youre right...im am everything, but not calm. guess i have to learn a lot and i wont be able just by doing the same stuff im doing my whole young life. just wondering what im supposed to do...like...you know...sometimes youre not very sure about the way you should choose. im studying now at the university in vienna and it seems like an old dream of mine came true but i still dont have any clue about the style, topic, message, all the things that make the difference between all us. i dont know if i have something to tell, i dont know if i want to make "just" conceptart, which is for sure one of my main goals, or if i want to make "art" as all those students in my class are doing...moving from exhibition to exhibition and trying to sell the stuff. ye...im whining...and i cant really explain this disaster in english...what the heck am i doing? haha
anyway...thank you again for being such a nice user.

-tiger, eric, fellah, theo, tensai: thank you all for your comments!

-azeira: im not really sure if i understood what you meant with "well, i have absolutely no question regarding your skills. lol, im actually expecting to see some photography with the amount of ground you cover here.", but thank you anyway.

Dude! I love this stuff! Especially the pencils! I love how you really get in there for some tight rendering. Talk about experimental! You're really finding all sorts of mediums and ways to work, bro. Keep it comin'! I'm excited to see what other goodies you'll have to offer in the future. Keep it up!!

Hello, dariocoelho :). Let's keep your following updates on this tempo, OK :). Well, I'm not an expert, and I doubt there is one in art, so subjective to individual taste any art is, but in me opinion you can go anyway you want, I think you are universal, you will do great in any area. You are brave to try anything and I have to say you are great in everything. And that's not a flatter, I really admire your work. What stand out for my are
1.your combinations of colors, again very brave and vivid and beautiful ( not just loud, but subtle), they make my heart jumped.
2. You ability to control your pen and pencils. Very confident and skilled.
3. Your fantasy creatures. Hat's off, great imagination and design. I love it. I'm close to shock by it.
4. Variety of your art. Love it and don't want you to lose it!!!!
5. Portraits and landscapes. They have charm, they re warm and moody, not dead.
The only thing that keeps your book from being one of the best ( and for me it is one of the best) is pages. You need to post more and often. I'll probably die from over excitement, but that's a nice way to go :).

So to your new work:
Awesome, rich, generous update. thank you so much for showing all this varied great work. Geez, you make me want to do something nice to you. If your hands are cold I would warm them up with mine and breath at them to make them able to draw. :). that's how your update effects me.

I'm just shaking my head in total amazement, so much gems in one update, unbelievable. I love each of them. The very emotional and confident portraits 10 min!!!!! mama mia!, the concept characters, great volume, pose and rendering, great everything! Sketch in train, beautiful and so truthful!, enviros, great!, both sketch and in colors. The last painting grabs my attention with the interesting idea, I want to know what's going on, what will happen next. Thank you, don't stop, draw more. You are awesome

ah, just mentioning that with the amount of ground you cover visually, and the various mediams that youve desplayed here thus far, it would not be suprissing to me for you to pull out some photography peices as well, :^^: .

-zebzfree: thank you, bro! ill try to keep you excited.

-sveta: as you see im trying to keep the tempo. thank you again for your kind words and tipps. i think youre right especially with mentioning the quantity. i should sketch more...more...ugh...
well and i guess its my turn to visit your sketchbook...how rude of me. ;)

-hypronost: thank you too. because someone didnt really believe im just writing again, these studies are made in about 10minutes...im trying to find a technique to shade quick and efficient. im just making quick strokes to figure out the pose and perspective what takes about 5 minutes and the second 5 minutes im only shading, drawing some harder strokes and there it is.

-marioucci: brigado for these honoring words! glad you like my work. who are those other brazilian artists? tudo de bom tb, vou olhar teu sb agora.

-ivy: i didnt understand...sorry. but i have a feeling that youre meaning the lifestudies.

-azeira: ok, i got it. thanks for the re-explanation. well...ive photographed sometimes before, but im not really good in, so ive stayed with the things i can handle. ;)

-voraz: thanks!

--

well, well...finally the second page. would have like to start this with some "more spectacular" sketches, but thats the way it goes...just let me thank you all for participating in this journey of whatever...i dont know. well see at the nevercoming end.

ive checked the community activities for so long now and ive tried to produce some decent stuff and it all turned into crap...so again i sketched something for the actual enviroment of the week, and i think im going to work this out as long as i can, as the deadline aint so far away now. well and ive painted a quick good-morning study just to have an idea about the color and so on...im really new into enviroments, so it would be nice if you can make me pay attention to wrong or just not well fitting elements.

first the study.

Hello, dariocoelho. It's really wonderful how different your interests are. I never know what to expect. My favorite is the winter landscape. I like the colors and perspective. Maybe I would add some texture (dots and scratches) or different media, or varied lines, to make the painting more breathing, you know. It's a little bit monotone right now. But of course don't pay any attention. if it's not what you want. I love the cool wet atmosphere in it.
Sketch is very interesting. Is it from life or imagination. Looks like from both. Very lively.
You draw an anatomy like you're telling some story :).These people without skin have faces of philosophers and poets, :).

-marioucci: thanks for the links! really wonderfull work hosted there.

-mull77: thank you for leaving your words here.

-sve: as i mentioned the landscape is just a study for matching the colors and get a feeling for...ye...landscape. im very new into enviroment so i need a lot of time and practice. and youre very right with the texture, but i really dont have a clue about how to use photoshop. only using the round-standard-brush.
the second landscape which was the concept for my eow-entry you can see below is without reference. i like to build up the enviroment myself when im going to add and change things...makes it easier for me.

so here is my eow-entry ive painted yesterday. hope you dig.

-dan: thanks! (im not sure if i understood the meaning of "slick".)

-henrik: thank you too, i must say i really like your work, especially how you use the pencil, really inspiring and i must admit im trying to shade like you do...well...in a special way of course. anyway...thanks for the honor of having your lines in my sketchbook!

-sve: glad you also like the last update! the sketch is not exactly from the roof of a house, i was just trying to create some enviroment just with a pencil and especially without reference. my idea was a kind of favela (you know, the slums in brazil) with a funky comic-style...more or less.
the nose studies were picked from reference as photographs, real life and movie stills. just drawing every nose i could see.

-chris: last but not least, let me thank you too for leaving such a nice comment in my sb! ;)

2 quick studies from reference. the first one is my girlfriend and the second is an indian boy...found over google.

Hey, dariocoelho :). Merry Christmas to you :). I like the portrait of your friend the most. Very strange and involving expression and those green and purple colors add so much to this sad mood. And i love this snow effect very much. Purple hair is a great idea! I would never thought of that, it's beautiful and weird. Wonderful portrait.
And I like the Brazilian voodoo portrait a lot, You wrote it's a ceremony. I can see that because of the young age of the depicted. Such a fresh and naive expression of his face. It's really precise, in my opinion. Tells a lot about his hesitation and curiosity. I might like some noise, dots and textures, because I love them very much, but It is great portrait just the way it is.
Thank you

kinda funny that you mentioned the portrait of my friend looks "best", because it really was a lot of fun to paint, even quick, but still fun. one of those rare heartblooded paintings that simply work.
you got the mood of the macumba-ceremony exactly like i wanted to show. glad it works how i planned. as its not finished i will try to add more dust in it, because its my taste too. thanks for the advice!

i hope its ok, due to the fact that i dont want to be rude, but i thought of posting the concepts for the actual onemonth-chow here too.
(so hello there, mod, send me a pm if im violating the rules.)
just copied the whole text ive written before in the chow-thread, because i would only repeat here.

i thought of something that captures the topic im currently working on and so i came to my concept of an aztec shaman who sees himself forced to prevent the incoming of the spanish conquerors in the 16th century. he as puppetmaster is able to control gigantic stonegolems which are of course some badass creatures the spanish people wont be able to mess with. without them he and his people wont survive so i think theres a clear relationship between the master and the puppet, also the golems wouldnt be able to defend the aztec culture without a brain to think. (in this case puppetS, i hope its ok!) im having a specific scene in my mind, but so far i coudnt catch the mood as i wanted to...anyway, here we go.

title: defending dorado
medium: mostly digital. size: as im using a pc with 256ram it wont be too big. :P

i first started to sketch some jungleenviroments with some ruins and the usual tomb raider stuff. just to get a feeling for the colors that will mark the atmosphere. these are the two i thought they are worth to show and below you can see ive already startet to sketch the golems and the entire scene as im not very good in planing whole paintings i have to sketch a lot.

http://people.freenet.de/daghwan/art/puppetmaster1.jpg

and some sketches of spanish conquerors. things are getting clearer. ;)

http://www.8ung.at/dariocoelho/gallery/sketches/donsanchez.jpg

:update: 26.12.05

i guess its getting serious now. sketched a scene i finally liked and startet to work out the background. i think the fog thats hiding the hills behind works kinda nice, because its showing how big those aztec pyramids can be and keeps the whole painting in a creepy mood, whats my main goal. as you can see ive startet to work on the golem (i decided to make only one). the shaman guy will hide himself behind the rocks at the right bottom, speaking out his words of magic and watching the enemies die. i will bring up a concept of the shaman in the next days. hope you dig.

Hey Dario, digging up your thread from the depth of the forum pits :)
You gotta keep updating this. I was looking over your stuff here, and there is a freshness to some of the things you do. Especially to the colours you use in some of your stuff. Maybe it's the darklight painting that's influenced your colour sense, don't know, but as your technique improves be careful not to loose that.
When you're painting out of the box, not trying to fit your art into this narrow framework of conceptart or realistic art, you really have something going for you. Stylistically and colour-wise.
It's going to be interesting to see where you take this, so nurture your technique, but also that unique style of yours. I think it's your style and freshness that inspires the people around here.
See you later, Thomas

-teeback: i was really curious to read your lines when you told me you wrote something into my sketchbook. i was expecting a total ripoff, critizising me to hell but no...just kind words and i have to thank you for the great motivation you gave me with your opinion. really glad to study withyou , as i said once before..."the rescuing bridge in the academy". ;)
the blacklight paintings surely influenced me in my choice of colors, thats right.

-doyle: glad you dig them so much, but be careful...i would better learn from someone elses drawings. im just a unknown little student on its way to...well...i would like to know that.

PLEASE post here if you feel forced to rate down my sketchbook!
im posting in this thread for more than one year now and i didnt get any single critique, beside i surely appreciate all your lovely comments, but i find it very rude if people just come by and rate it down without any given reason. its not that i really care for those stars on my sketchbook but im wondering why people dont grant me this little success.
this happened several times now and im feeling quite pissed so again...

PLEASE EXPLAIN YOUR MOTIVATION FOR RATING DOWN THIS THREAD
instead of just being destructive.

http://www.8ung.at/dariocoelho/gallery/sketches/universum.jpg
as far as criticing goes, mmmm let me see, I dig your imagination
all you seem to need is work on tecnique, not that your actual level
is bad, its quite good really, still some times you make small
proporcions errors that hurt the quality of your work,
http://www.8ung.at/dariocoelho/gallery/sketches/faces.jpg
this faces show promise, but some times you make the top of the
skull to small, what I mean is that the eyes should be on the
center of the face, some times the space form the eyes to the
top of the head is smaller than from the eyes down, Im not
talking about the ones were the head is looking up, in those the
proporcions change because of the perspective.
I guess all you need is fine tune some stuff, so that you go up
to the next level, :P not that I know all that much about that,
imo your are kicking my ass in more than one thing.
I give you four stars, because I only vote five when I think that the
artwork quality is very constant, your are so very close but
still show some inconsistencies!!

-cigaro: righty right!

-mr.joe: its painted in painter 7, so yes, its completely digital.
i mostyl use a normal 2b pencil, preferring the company "lyra", but thats just a taste. sometimes i shade with hb, but in the end im coming back to 2b.
depending on the paper. for normal copypaper the hb fits better.

But I'm glad I stopped in... wonderful paints, my man. Great pencil work too. I think you could still work on poses and anatomy work but I see that problem most because I see it in my own work as well. Good work all around. Some really creative ideas being tossed around here. Keep postin'!!

Aye elcoelho,

Exceptional artwork. I left two paragraphs of feedback on a library computer a few days ago but I can see that it didn't post. When I have more time, I'll try and review my favorites from you. Last time I checked, page 2 was mostly X images that I couldn't see. What I could see were explosively colorful characters and scenes. You've got a serious talent. Please update me with wherever you go - beyond this sketchbook, art website, and internet. Private message me anytime!

Respect,

Keep doing you

this drawing was made for a community activity with the theme "die grau" which means "the grey one". i enjoyed rendering out a drawing - been a long time since i've done this.

Wow, Dario :D
Wirklich tolle Arbeiten.. vorallem all dieser tribal-stuff :p.
Sehr inspirierend!

ouu, last one is great! love the old fantasy vibe, maybe add some creepy tree branches along the sides or something to add more composition.

Hey! Post an Update!! :)

though I've seen your stuff at GA, it's cool to look over a more extensive showing. Oozing with style man... and this one here: http://www.dariocoelho.com/gallery/sketches/airbornoma2.jpg totally looks like my late grandmother as I remember her, (minus the goggles) hah

Hey Dario!

-eric: thanks for stopping by. i guess she's the grandma we all hope for. ;)

-spooky: i sense no irony, so i just say thank you for letting me know that you appreciate my focus on creating.

-utum: thanks. :) ich wohne in wien, daher das deutsch.

two digital studies this time. the bottle had to be done quick, so i couldn't finish the whole piece, but it's never wrong to study, aye?

Very decent works. Like em.
Saw most of it over at daf (.de) already. Dig the treeguys and the Bristolpappered pencils the most.
Your colours tend to become a bit varicoloured at times. For example the BG at last sillife in right, bottom corner bothers me a bit. A more neutral BG might have made the objects pop out more.
Awaiting the next batch of update :)
