(Scroll downwards for better stuff)

Hello there, folks. Thought I'd give this a try finally(well, I haven't been around here for so long, so "finally" might be an overstatement). I probably wont be able to update daily, but I'll do it as often as time and priority allows me.
Below is a tiny selection of my daily productions. Not all of it is particularly "sketchy" in style, but I guess that's just the way I work, and this selection should offer a glimpse into the variety(or lack of such) of my pencil sketches. I couldn't bother to dig through all of the sketch material I have lying around my place, so it's quite possible I've missed something more worthy of being here than some of the stuff I present below. But anyway, that doesn't matter, since this isn't so much about quality to begin with, rather about improvement along the way, if I've caught the point?
Suggestions, c & c are welcomed of course.

Quick reference sketches from life, books and pics(the lonely dude is from real life, the other stuff from books):

From my mind:
(These three are actually based upon the general proportions of 2-5 minute croquis sketches I have drawn from life, but the final design itself is the work of my imagination: )

Totally abstract:

Finally, this is my take on one of Marko Djurdjevic's sketches, done from memory. Quite a laugh compared to the original I guess:

Androids coloured with palette knives in Painter IX. I just discovered the palette knife, and allready I've fallen in love with the speed and flexibility of this amazing tool. Did these during a few minutes with no corrections along the way, so they're a bit impressionistic:

I did most of these yesterday, a few of them today. The majority are done with cheap HB pencils, some have parts done with a Cretacolor 4B pencil. I have thousands of sheets like these floating around my tiny flat, and when I say 'thousands' I actually mean it literally. I drew for almost 15 hours yesterday, and my new training program consists of drawing for at least 58 hours a week. Scanning and uploading all of these took me some time, so I won't do another update of this size. I hope you enjoy, and also hope some moderator could move this thread to the right forum, since I posted it here by accident. Anyways, here goes...

From books(with bits and pieces from my mind thrown in between):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/UbiqueDeus/sketchbook1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/UbiqueDeus/sketchbook2.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/UbiqueDeus/sketchbook3.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/UbiqueDeus/sketchbook4.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/UbiqueDeus/sketchbook5.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/UbiqueDeus/sketchbook6.jpg

I have more done from books, but I couldn't bother to upload and resize them in slow photobucket right now, so here are three 10-minute life sketches of a girl from school. I have dozens/hundreds of sketches of her, but these will have to do for now:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/UbiqueDeus/sketchbook11.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/UbiqueDeus/sketchbook12.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/UbiqueDeus/sketchbook13.jpg

And finally, here's some stuff entirely from my mind:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/UbiqueDeus/sketchbook14.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/UbiqueDeus/sketchbook15.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/UbiqueDeus/sketchbook16.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/UbiqueDeus/sketchbook17.jpg

Sorry about the stupid sizes, I should have set a fixed size when I scanned them, but unfortunately I didn't. And the resize-function in photobucket seems to work only on some of them. Oh well...

Here are some that were done during the last days. I have tons like these lying around. It would take me too long to scan all of them, and my time must be spent drawing, so I give you a small selection.

Good stuff so far man, though I'd like to see some more finished pieces. Great shading, glad to see your control over values. One suggestion, try not to work from blocks like you do. I don't know if that makes sense, but most of your work's edges appear... blocky. Keep it comin!

Thanks, klinesmoker, sorry I didn't reply earlier. I'll keep your advice in mind. Here are a couple of quick, no-ref sketches I did in Painter tonight, using only a palette knife ranging between approximately 30 to 50 pixels in size.

The first one might be reminiscent of Sid Vicious, though I didn't have him in mind while painting it. The resemblance just struck me as it neared completion. Though I might just be imagining things:

A quick skull sketch from memory:

Didn't spend much time on these, so they're quite rough.

I wish I had a class mate that would model their HAND for me. Lucky. She realy doesnt mind nude modelling for you? That's awesome. I wish there were more poeple like that. More non-artistic people anyways. Well, not much to coment on. Some of your proportions look a little off, but just keep practicing like you are.

:bashful: Oops, it seems I forgot to mention that she didn't model just for me, but for the whole class. And she was paid for it, of course. She needed the money for our class trip.
Anyway, thanks for your reply.

Here are a couple of creatures I did today. Cheap HB Pencil on even cheaper copy paper, as usual. No ref:

I'd like to have some more responces in this thread, but nevermind, I'll just keep drawing.

Hi dude! I know i promised to check out your sketchbook as soon as you started it, but hey, as you know, im not the most reliable guy. :P

I like your sketches, you seem to have evolved since we were in school together. Most noticeable is your lines, that i remember were kind of stiff. Now you have loosended up a bit, and it shows. I like the stuff you have done from your mind, some of the creatures are really funny, like the arachnophant. (i believe i have a nest of those right outside my bedroom window. Big fuckers. :))

I espescially like this one: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/UbiqueDeus/sketchbook13.jpg (hmmm.. wonder why..;)) but there's some weirdness going on in the foot area. If you still have my number, give it to her, ok? :D

Whoa, I haven't checked in here for a while, didn't expect any more replies here really.

Hey, no prob man! I don't like having commitments to other people myself either. Anyways, better late than never. :D

Thanks! Glad you liked the 'phant. I do evolve, and as of late I've felt that the stuff in this sketchbook doesn't really represent me any longer. I've neglected this thread for a while now, and meanwhile dozens of better drawings have piled up all over my place, and I haven't bothered to scan any of them. I just don't know where to start, and I'm not motivated to use the sketchbook as a tool for further evolvement, since the whole scanning-, scaling-, adjusting-, uploading-, writing- and posting-procedure is too time-consuming and doesn't really turn back that much in the end, and all that time is better spent drawing.

It's a bad sketch and it honestly doesn't do the girl justice in any way. We use to drink and go out (together with some other guys from my class), last time was on friday, but she's taken at the moment(it does seem she's planning to break up with him soon though). Anyways, there's a better, more rendered charcoal study of her in the other thread in my signature, you've probably seen it already.

Nah... But I'll probably let this thread die anyway now, so it doesn't matter. I won't guarantee a complete abandoning for all eternity though.

Ooooh! Another norwegian :) I like your more recent studies...good start. I'm going to act like a smartass and give tips and advices;)

Study more anatomy (from life and books. Really, the books were allways ment to be studied with the combination of life studies.) Also, read loomis, check out kChens demos.

Your lines seems to suffer form jaggies and such. Don't be afraid to look more at the subject you are drawing. That means looking less at the paper. Let your eyes FEEL the form, while your arm follows. Draw loose and move your arm from the SHOULDER. This is basic stuff, i'm sure you have heard it before, but its as fundamental as it is easily ignored.

I get the impression that you are shading with high contrast, but crude. Just study alot and you will slowly dicover how to SHAPE things properly.

I realise i'm bumping an old thread...mabye you have something new to show?

Hi there, n0fish. Sorry I didn't reply earlier, been a bit busy lately.
Thanks for the critique. I've heard the stuff about the jagged egdes before, I guess it's just one of my bad habits.
I'm working on my anatomy every day basically, but haven't bought any books yet. Do you have any specific book recommendations besides Loomis?

Here're a couple of sketches from a week back or so. I have better and more recent stuff, but I'm currently at home for the holidays, using an old ultra-slow computer with no scanner connected. I'll see if I can install the scanner later and scan in some of the newer work. These two will have to do for now, they are also viewable in my profile portfolio:

http://img272.echo.cx/img272/5082/clockworkgirl8yz.jpg
Used photo ref for the face of the girl, and threw in some eyelashes from one of my favorite movies, since she reminded me of Alex from Clockwork Orange.

http://img272.echo.cx/img272/7691/bedtime8mw.jpg
No ref exept for the boy's face, which is loosely based on a Wes-sketch.

Skull sketch done some days ago:

http://img123.echo.cx/img123/821/skull18gq.jpg

This is twice the size of the ones I normally post, so I had to scan it in two halfs. This resulted in a rather ugly dividing line, but it'll have to do for now.
Spent considerably more time on this than what I do with my regular sketches. HB wooden and mechanical 0.5 pencil + some 4B/6B wooden in spots here and there. Canson sketch paper. The girls face/head is referenced from the sketch I posted earlier, the rest is from my mind:

Okay. It's been a while.

Tonight I did my first Photoshop piece, just a quick speedpaint of a creature. Spent half an hour or so on this, and didn't use the eraser once. With that in mind I am quite happy with how it has turned out (so far). I'll probably continue working on this, since I had some fun while playing with this critter, more fun than I've ever had with Painter.
Painter is probably to complex for me at my current level, and I find Photoshop to be more intuitive and accessible for a beginner like myself:
