The DSG(Daily sketch group)

What is the DSG?..
- The DSG is a collection of artists who join together on IRC (http://209.126.148.88/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1663/) at a specific time. A topic is given to the members of the channel and are given an (1)hour and thirty(30) minutes to complete it. When the time is up we all post our works in a single thread.

Where is the DSG?..
- The DSG is held on IRC on the server irc.AsylumNet.Org in the channel #Sketch - More information by clicking here: http://209.126.148.88/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1663/

When is DSG?..
- 1pm(AU) 3pm (NZ) 6pm (Pacific) 7pm (Mountain) 8pm (Central) 9pm (Eastern) 2am (GMT) 3am (CET/SWED)

When is DSG|EU
- 7am(AU) 10am (NZ) 12am (Pacific) 1pm (Mountain) 2pm (Central) 3pm (Eastern) 5pm (GMT -3/Brazil) 8pm (GMT) 9pm (CET/SWED)

Misc..*update*
DSG|EU now have their own theme and will be posting in their own threads :]

I would like a discussion. Currently the DSG|EU is going to be using the last DSG theme. 2 users suggested this way since they didn't want users to be upset that they couldn't do the same topic as DSG did.

But my suggestion is. That if I cannot set it(which ALOT of the times i can set the DSG|EU topic as well as the DSG), I could give a few users permission to access a command on my bot to launch a random topic from an DSGEUtheme.txt which would be seperate from the DSGtheme.txt
The reason they would have to be seperate is because i would have to delete the used theme, and it wouldn't be fair for one group to use a theme and take it from another.

So all in all both groups would have their own random themes. No one would be jipped because even if one theme was better than another some day, it's still in the groups theme thread.

i hope all the makes sense. it seemed like a huge run on sentance when i wrote it..

ok 2 more EU people said that they would like to be using the same theme that DSG used the night before.

I also think you shouldn't put the europe pictures in a separete thread. Just post it in the same one as the other dsg.

i'd say : same theme for both, dsg first then dsg|eu, same thread for all posts. my 2406135 eurocents

having the EU guys know the topic beforehand kinda robs them of the shock and horror of not knowing the topic until its time to start.

Nothing against the shock and horror of working so fast on my crappy tablet ;)

Thanks guys for the european group - if I get earlier from work than 10 p.m. I will try to join ...

Very true. Maybe the bot could be programmed to change the topic automatically? That would be neat... It could set the topic for SDG, then when the time's up it could erase it, and show it again when it's time for DSG|EU.

Davi, can it be done?

davi

yeah... but... the threads will already be on Conceptart.org...

maybe we should keep the same topic but make the dsg|eu before the dsg.
i mean :
dsg (2am GMT) to dsg|eu (8pm GMT)= +18h
dsg|eu (8pm GMT) to dsg (2am GMT the day after)= +6h
so i think it would be better if the new topic appeared first at dsg|eu time.
what u think ?

why not? :D

yea and then someone from the regular DSG posts a topic when they're done and then we all post our picture. This way the topic stays hidden for everyone!

I agree, the way to make it invisible for all is that we, the EU crew do the painting before, but post it after US guys...

It lose a bit of magic having to wait for posting, but i can do if the topic remains as a surprise...

March 6th, 2003, 04:10 PM
it also kills the whole 90 minute speed painting concept, which seems like the best part

the only solution that really works is separate themes for each group, and if I understand how things work here (and I'm not suggesting I do) that would only work if the two groups posted in separate threads . . . easy enough to do?

MrSmith
March 6th, 2003, 06:18 PM
seperate threads seems like a good idea, but i do the U.S. dsg, so i really dont care.

Fozzybar

No waiting for posting...this is stupid...as grey said, the 90 minutes AND not knowing the topic until the start are the best parts about this...

So it would lose much attractiveness if people were posting hours after finishing the pieces...

Sad, but it seems, that this different topic-thing is the best solution...

If everyone wants the same theme, too bad you can't lock the DSG thread after everyone has posted and discussed the work for awhile and then unlock the thread again when the DSG|EU people are ready to post.

killing.people, mountian i believe....

I think i would like to set up 2 seperate themes, for DSG|EU and DSG. The problem is no one is joining for the dsg|eu at all... so... if you guys would join #sketch for the EU time zone and continue doing it the lame way it is for a bit, so i know people are doing it then i well set up it's own themes, so they aren't wasted.

tell your friends or something :\

[edit: davi]
Ok ignore that. I set it up so DSG|EU has it's own seperate themes.

DSG|EU would start at approx. 3 AM (if you're living in Beijing) or DSG would start at approx. 10 AM i think....

regarding the daylight saving time:

Could the DSG start an hour earlier? Its because most european countries already changed it...

The USA DST will operate in 6th april i think. Further information: http://www.worldtimezone.com/daylight.htm

btw. http://www.worldtimezone.com/index24.html is a good overview..

dsg eu starts at:

Topics will never repeat again. DSG and DSG|EU will be using the same topic list now. So.. if dsg|eu gets a good topic, you can always do it late but it will never show up for DSG now, and vice versa. I'm going to try to add a few hundred new topics to the list. i need at least 600 for a full years worth.

Personally I never did mind about having the same topics as the DSG some days before. In fact I often would have liked to get some of the topics as well ... I suppose itīs more of a problem to the non-Europeans in the DSG/EU.

also because of the european's day light savings time, the american times all go back one hour. 2pm(est) for the DSG|EU

I was curious to know where do the I find the topic for the dsg at 9pm eastern time. I always have to wait until 10:30pm to actually see what the topic was and what everyone posted.

Thanks.
