concept art info

I am interested in a career in cencept art, and was looking for a few tips. I have been drawing for quite sometime and draw every single day. I am in school to get a degree in animation and illustration. My question relates to those little straight lines I always see in mechanical concept art. I am guessing that those are guidelines of a sort, but what is the method used to set them up. Does it have something to do with perspective, vanishing points, ect. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes it has to do with perspective. The above link has some tutorials for starting out with perspective lines...
There are books you can buy on the subject as well.

if those are the lines I'm thinking of they should be passing through the center of an elipse. I'm a mechanical engineering student and we use these things called elipse guids. The line has to do with using those

I am no concept artist but I have done enough drafting to know the name for those lines are typically called "Construction Lines" (not necessarily just for perspective, they are lines that help you finish/create your drawing, drafting, concept...). A technical drafter would remove them before you submitted a final plans. In concept art and design development it has become stylish to leave these lines in.

i would like to learn more about concept art and the way of create shape but i have no idea.. perhaps i don't train my imagination enough.... does anyone know a good exercice for this?
