Question about a technique...

I dont know the name of this technique... its where you draw a face, but use like shapes to find shading values and what not. Like you block it together or something... anyone know what technique this is, and how helpful is it ??

Construction?

Whatever it is, it sounds helpful if you can imagine shapes in different positions and perspective views. Hell, I might try it.
