Im living in sweden right now, just fininshing a 2year program in graphic design, but looking to further my education, preferrably in New York. Since most schools are to expensive, Ive found a BA in Electronic design and Multimedia at City College of New York which is basically what I can afford, but after viewing their Thesis project photos and students work, Im suspecting this school is cr*p? Im also looking in to Cooper Union, but I missed the deadline for nex term, so ill have to wait another year....
But still, does anyone have an opinion of CUNY? Any other cheap schools you could recommend?
Any help would be great!

:er: I'm on the ropes about any of the CUNY member schools art programs since they're decided to shift focus from actual traditional skills to digital media. I can't say the schools are crap, but they're really limited in what they can offer in some majors. I'm taking a few of the art courses while majoring in engineering science at BCC. Your best bet is probably FIT in Manhattan, if you're looking for an affordable school with an illustration major. I heard Hunter college has a fine art program as well, but it looked pretty weak to me.

I don't know of any schools within the CUNY system that have an art program worth mentioning.
FIT is probably your best bet for a public school in NYC, but remember that living in New York=expensive no matter where you go. Also, most state schools have very different tuitions for residents and out-of-state (not to mention coutry) students.
Cooper Union is tuition free, but consequently incredibly competetive to get into.

You can always hit the Art Students League if push comes to shove on your situation and find the traditional media classes to be lacking. I'd seriously encourage that if you end up going the CUNY route, but FIT, is a member of SUNY, which are by far the better schools to be accepted to. Look into SUNY.edu for more information.

Thanks everybody for the info, I was wodering a bit more about Cooper U. Does anyone know anyone how goes there, that maybe I could contact?
Portfolioadvice, etc? it bee nice to maybe see a portfolio that a student gor accepted with! I understand that its a popular place, because its free, yet I see that there wheonly about 1000 applicants last year.
Im gonna make my way to NY for the Nat.portf. Days this summer, thought id check out all the schools aswell.
Oh and by the way guys, checked out your sites, good good stuff! Another thing ive been pondering about is how do most schools in the U.S look upon "older" undergrad students? Im 26 now, but will be 27 when I apply. Hmmm...

Out of curiosity, is there anyone on this forum, other then myself, who's taken art courses with a CUNY member school?
