Hey guys,
We are new and looking for some feedback and crits. The following sketches are preparations for some creature concepts for an upcoming movie. These creatures here - except for the helmetstudy - are mainly demons...
looking forward for some ideas and crits - thanks...

Hey PanA, Looks good, I really like the helmet design. . .just looks visually neat. The demons are nicely done, but don't really "wow" me, they just seem like the same type that's been done over again - -but I don't know how much freedom you have on that. anyway- good work, hope to see more.

thanks for the comment, rick.
You guessed it, the boss showed us the usual suspects and wants us to stay close to them. Trying to push the borders anyways...

I really like these. You've got a really good grasp on motion and anatomy (with a couple irregularities, like the short arm on Man-Iht 2 and Sarn's short legs). And while the design may not make one vomit in terror, there's a lot to be said for doing things well, and these are done well.
Nice

i'm liking the dynamism of your linework and the poses. the helmet design seems interesting but i dig the first one most (even though that's not the most original character i've ever seen; and sometimes redesigning or drawing something on cliche is even more challenging, you've managed well;))

Sarnes is my favorite... the red line instead of the blue really makes the image unique to me.. I am a big fan of rough work.. I really dig all your stuff man

Thank you very much for the comments.
@ dogfood - Thanks man, you're right. I felt, there was something wrong with sarns knight. Even measuring didn't really help... Sometimes you need someone to tell you
@ ender - this cliche-thing is a bad thing about the job. the producer is so stuck on references, that we don't really have a chance to explore and experiment.
This character is one of the 'good guys', an angel, that sometimes incarnates but mostly consist of immaterial light

Man, this one is really nice. The drapery is great, but you may want to check the lower body. I think you've got the knuckles around the knees, again.

this is 'sarns dämonenritter' (first of this thread) reworked (comissioner didn't like it...)

man the last one is awesome!! he has some kind of dark humor about him, i loved that.
and the angel is great too. i don't know if that's finished or you're going to work on that (so just don't mind if you're not :bashful: ), i'd like to see him holding a more slender sword or a spear kinda weapon (just something slender:))

hey, onebigCelt and ender - thanks for reply. those are all just sketches. the big challange is, to find a presentation style for all of them. Don't know yet. I'd be more than happy for any idea...
I'd go for some slim weapon too with the angel - but the money giver wants a firesword...

what do you mean by presentation style the way you want to flesh them out or a way to present them on like a website

The thing is, he wants to have about 12 characters and two environments in a coherent style and layout. Marko's he-man redisign for example is a great example of how one could present a row of characters in a great way, I think. So this is basically the major issue we are working on right now...

I would make individual pages...
but for the final I would have all of the characters goign from right to left in what ever faction they belond to or by height
with a netraul back groun running threw the middle...
maybe a 25% of one of your environments...
then maybe have a black line of terrain for a base....

Today was bad-guy-day - Count Sarn, the 'Dracula'-touched ultra villain...
Don't know about the whole figure, but I am quite happy with the helmet so far...

Nice stuff you got there. You have a pretty solid grasp of the human anatomy. I love your faces that you did but feel that the demons were weaker than your humans. I would try to exagerate the demons anatomy to get away from looking too human. anyway, great stuff

These are looking really good. In the scene, the perspective is off. The main dome is showing a pretty big angle, while the surrounding buildings, only a little lower, are showing at eye level.

thanks for the crit man. These windows at the tower are actually supposed to go spiralwise around it - tower of bable like.. But that still doesn't work out really well.
Please stick around man - really appreciate your comments
cartonnefox:
Well, about 50% of what is here is lewistons work. The PanA group consists of 3 artists working on this project ( a fantasy movie on a holbein.novel).
You might have notices the difference in style already...
Lewiston is putting his favourites in his sketchbook - to have it recorded...
this thread is basically to protocoll the progress of this project and to get crits ideas and asskicks...
By the way - thanks for the replies so far...

We don't really have much experience with doing storyboards. Any critique or advice is appreciated.

Wow, nice stuff.. this is very good inspiration. Designs are pretty damn cool. The 'fliegender teufel' character could look a little bit more 'evil' and 'demonic' in my opinion. The 2nd version is better, but he looks like he's about to cry. heh. Who knows, maybe you inteded it to be that way, but I'd just love to see a sinister more evil version in the facial expression... :yayca:
