Hi, I posted a thread in sketches and doodles but was told to make a proper introduction here. Here is some of my work, I'll get more up soon. Hope you guys enjoy and I would love any constructive feedback. Oh, and if the pictures don't show up its JoshuatheJames's fault because he made new links for me. hey man these concepts are great--especially the first two. that second one is really original, nice job.the expressions and playfullness of the first characters are ab fab( and are a really great showcase of your drawing skills)! these are very strong pieces-----more please. yummy!!!!----ty

Thanks for the compliments!! The third drawing conceptually is not as "original" but I was focusing more on animating the character and get a lot more motion out of the pose. Again, thanks for the kind words! --jm

Ya i totally agree, great work, i like to draw characters that look like they have been taking out of a frame in an animation aswell i think it gives them character.

Hey man, these are really cool and I like your color schemes a lot. The wierd boar guy is a FRESH design. But I gotta tell you - the only thing bothering me about these is that you have your name and emblem and signature all over them. I think it would help the dignity of your drawings to just have one of these on them at a time.
Food for thought.

Hey guys, thanks for all the kind words!! Thanks for the original style compliment Atmospheria!! I was influenced heavily by Ralph McQuarrie of the original Star Wars, who was not!! I think I need to start doing a few "scary" monsters because I tend to draw cutesy or tough looking monsters. Sorry for my name plastered all over the place Kress, alot of my pics are arranged that way in my computer in case I want to pop them in a portfolio. You gotta have your name plastered everywhere when applying for a job. Hopefully I'll see some of your work soon!!

Those pictures remind me of Starwars

These are very inspiring. Each is full of character and individualism.

Great sense of 3d, but sometimes flat in sections. Comments? Just be aware of all the details. You are aware of the greater masses, but be more aware of the minor ones too.

For example, the 3rd piece...the motion study of the orc... his body dimension is well done, but his hands rather flat looking.

Pleased to see the imagination and looking forward to see more of your work.

Again, thanks for the comments!
I'll definately develop the hands to make them look more dimentional. I think some shading will help out there. Oh and Kay... I worked on a few games at LucasArts so I may have picked up some of those "Star Wars" traits. I guess that can be both good and bad. Thanks for the compliments and I will put your critiques to use!! j murchie

Yo JEFF!!

I never saw the second and third picture you did before. Man! Good stuff! You've come a long way!

Hey JOSH! What are we going to do about this guy? He was good in school but now we see his true power.

Thanks for the compliments Chris! Hopefully I will get myself more diciplined and in a rythm so that I will get dramatically better. Yeah I'll call Todd and try to get him to post. He is the best animal life artist I have ever known and I think getting him on the forums will force him to do more concepts and apply his animal anatomy knowledge. Okay, I need to get off my butt and go draw. Talk to you later! --J. Murchie

you got to work alittle with lucasarts? thats cool, I recently awhile ago bought myself the animal wildlife starwars reference book, its cool

GREENHORN
March 6th, 2003, 03:53 AM
Yeah, I worked on Jedi Starfighter for the PS2 and XBOX and you can see some of my spaceships in the bonus section under concept art. I designed mostly the "bad guy" spaceships and boss ships. I also did concepts for a futuristic astronaught game for LucasArts called Red Rock RTX, which will be released in a couple of months.

Yeah, I got that Terryl Witlatch book on the wildlife of Star Wars and man...she is awesome. Her anatomy is superb!!

Great job man...it's amazing how strange your monsters look but how believable they really are. I feel like they really could exist. You work with Sean McNally right? Great stuff man keep em comin.

Hi again!!

Mindcandy..thanks for the compliment about my monsters being believable, that's exactly what I try to do when I design a character. Some say I should get really wierd with my monsters which I think I should do to a certain extent but I see a lot of wierd monsters around lately and believe just because something is wierd does not neccesarily make it a good design...unless your Gieger! Oh yeah...I don't work with McNallyism now but maybe down the line. Actually we were roommates in college at CCAD.

Cyclonaut.., thanks for the compliments. I'll try to get some more art posted soon.

Jeff,
I really like the green piece and they all are very solid. lets see more of the green. The third piece is professional quality, but I think the color rendering could be tighter. Its those fuzzy photoshop edges, they just bother me; i think they might flatten areas out sometimes. But again, its production quality and I'm just being as harsh as i can be to help you. awesome stuff jeff.

take care
