So I went to this Chevelle show in Hartford last night, man was I bummed when they finished their set and didn't play a SINGLE track from their first album. They only have three albums, its not like they have so many that they are forced to not play songs from all of them. There last two albums are radio friendly poppy sounding, but their first album has a great independant sound to it.
Any other Chevelle (or I guess for me, first album Chevelle) fans? completely ruined my day today. What a waste of $30. I should have just stayed home and got further in Metroid Prime 2. :(

Their first album is one of my favorite albums, but their latter two are much cleaner and radio friendly. I vented at the chevelle forums about how bummed I was, and it regressed into a bunch of people telling me to shut the fuck up. Even the moderator was kind of a dick. Im less of a chevelle fan today than before I went to the show. But their first album is great. Recorded by Steve Albini, so it has that great indy sound. Maybe Im just a Steve Albini fan......

i saw chevell open for corn in Salem a few months ago, i never liked them very much to begin with . and after thier performance they definately didnt score any bonus points. they should change thier name to civic, or jetta, Chevell is way too cool of a musscle car to imply the kind of sound they produce. way too predictiable and mainstream, thier stage pressence was just arrogant.
Korn however kicked ass. last time i listened to one of thier albums wasback in art school.
however neither of those bands compared to the queens of the stonage concert i went to last night. dessert rock rules.
and yes, you should have stayed home and played metroid prime 2 :android: :android: :android:

Oh man, I was so pissed about it. I don't really know what your taste in music is, but I would really highly recommend checking out their first album, "Point #1." I definetly agree that their last two albums, which was probably all they played at the show you went to, are very formulaic, and predictable. The song structure on their first cd is much better, like worlds better in my opinion. It doesn't have that "rinse and repeat" feel.
right on about the queens of the stone age concert. They were pretty good then? I have their last cd, and like it. I would say I am into Kyuss a little more. Have you heard them before? If not, you might wanna check those guys out. When Kyuss disbanded, several of the members went on to start Queens of the Stone Age. I have also heard that the Kyuss bassist was almost the second bassist for TOOL before Justin Chancellor got the spot.

Oracrest, get all the Queens CDs, like, now. Immediately. Better yet, get the Desert Sessions CDs as well ... although you may want to skip the first two.
If you're into Kyuss you'll find a lot to love there. The first Queens album has a simple, slow groove and is one of my favourite albums. The second is very punkrock. The first track "Feel Good Hit of the Summer" was released as the first single in europe, and for some reason the record company decided releasing "Autopilot" would be a better idea in the US. Go figure :er:
Anyway, on the later Desert Sessions you'll find tracks featuring PJ Harvey and Mark Lanegan, and those sound like they were recorded 30 years ago, which in this case is a good thing. There's also some crazy songs that didn't make it onto the Queens albums, and - well, i could write about these albums all day. It's like a microcosm of cool ass music to shake your bum & hair to.

Three albums, and i think there are 5 desert sessions cds. So you have the blue one, Rated R? Well then there's only the first album (titled "queens of the stone age") and the last 3 Desert Sessions left for you to buy :)
Also don't forget their new album. It'll be released on the 21th this month in Germany, dunno about the US. I'll check out the first Chevelle album too i guess, i had one song from it on a sampler and i liked that one.
Edit:
I have the latest one, the red one, and the blue one.
So does that mean you already have the new one, Lullabies to Paralyze?

no, just red and blue. Yeah that chevelle cd is worth checking out. particularly the first two tracks (which are one song, just broken up into two tracks, #7 "dos", and #11 "Peer". those are my favs off the album. It has a much more gritty indy rock sound to them, not the clean polished sound they do now. It was produced by Steve Albini, who I guess is pretty big as an indy producer with a particular disdain for the commercialism of the business. Ill be sure to check out those queens albums too!
Any of you guys HUM fans?
