yeah, that's been around for a LOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGGG time...seems you aren't paying enough attention to the industry...still it amkes me wonder why no game developers have even made a game with this engine....hmmm....it's been a complete engine for a quite a while...
so yeah, what you see, isn't new, it's old news. it won't be long till there is a game wiht that engine.

This has been around for a while.

My speculation on the lack of blowtheconsumerawaywithamazinggraphics (besides HL2) is that not many computers can take it, so it wouldnt be a very good business tactic to sell a game that only the richest of the rich could play.

But damn does that look sweet. I saw a video of that guy in front of the colored window. It looked amazing.

I'm excited for the next generation of gaming!!

Probably need a pair of powerful 6800s or X800s in SLI format and a badass CPU with 2GB of Cosair ram running way above its core speed :teeth:

All equates to.......NO MONEY

I've had the privilege of seeing this beast in motion (everything, and more that's in those shots) ever since Midway signed on to publish Epic's games and to use it on the next generation of Midway titles.

It was running on a modest machine (for its predicted future) .. and man.. lemme' tell you it is a sight be behold ... the normal maps are astounding, every brick pops out of a wall.

There's even defenition of pores on a character's face, and even light shining through their skin.

I personally can't wait to see what illustrative and visually-experemental titles pop out of technology like this -- think Rez or Wind Waker with power like this.

Most gorgeous engine so far.

However it will play on lesser systems. Read how they technically use the engine. It uses a low poly and high poly version and the low poly one is made to seem as though it has more poly's than it really does. I would be willing to be on a current 6600GT+ X700+ card it would run fine (assuming of course they keep the triangle counts to a somewhat reasonable figure).

i'm sure it will run excellent on my computer, they are finding new was to make a game wiht gorgeos graphics without consumers having to to have the best computer to be able to play it, dude i can play doom3, riddick, farcry, HL2 all wiht no problem what so ever. it's getting easier to do such graphics...so i have my trust that epic games can manage to develope tricks and such to make this game work on most computers.

LOL The unreal engine 3 showcases the graphics capability of the new consoles coming out that is why it has not been used for any games thus far, it always has been. Looks like he isn't the only one paying enough attention to the gaming industry Muffin Man.

Is this a hint? I know RainbowSIX 4 is using the Unreal Combat engine....or so the game reviewers tell me :bashful:

There are actually some new videos out from GDC demonstrating engine features and stuff.
Not the highest quality (mildly-shakycam) but definitely good watchin'.

MuffinMan: The engine may have been in development for a long time, but with stuff this high-end, it takes a lot longer to create art assets for games to take advantage of the new technology. For example, on average it takes a few character artists a month to finish a single creature model for Epic's game. Then again, they're film quality. But you can see why it takes a long time.
Half-Life 2 took 5 years.

There's a lot of cool new tech going on in this engine that I can't wait to get my hands on... parallax mapping, all sorts of cool lighting, HDR images and such... sweet!

actually, i believe they use the really detailed figure to create the normal map that is placed on the low poly figure to create the illusion of a 2,000,000 poly figure in real time

don't get your hopes up for the consoles, dude...they are catching up, but the pc is still one step ahead.

Xbox2 will run the Unreal Engine 3, as will the next Sony console... the PC isn't THAT far ahead of the next-gen consoles, MuffinMan. The only reason it stays in front in the performance stakes is because you can't really upgrade consoles... they stay as they were made originally while the PC moves with the new hardware. When consoles are released they are usually pretty cutting-edge, but get rapidly left behind in the hardware stakes. So they're aiming to release the consoles that will run what is currently "next-gen" tech, although it will be "current tech" by the time they go on sale. And 6 months later it will all be old news, and there'll be something even more shiny and powerful on the way.
