Sorry for the botched up edges on the first one. Anyways, I'm trying to get back into the havbit of drawing creatures. Let me know what you all think :D

They look yummy to eat!

Hey, would you mind telling me if these were inspired/influenced by any particular artists?
I've been noticing that when people draw creatures on this forum, they almost all have this unified... feeling to them. Something with body, that's vaguely mamillian and spider-like at the same time.

The first one reminded me of a headcrab from Half Life 2... though with a slit in the back it seems more like a headcrab piggy bank :D

Good works, keep em coming.

Thanks for the comments, people!

First off, the creature with the wings. I know it's lacking color like the other one, but these are just studies. I just want to be able to use these as reference for their "anatomy", proportions, and to be able to imagine how they'd move. So what you see is not even close to being considered an actual illustration. Just studies. :)

Doz3r-Second. Yeah, I guess I was kind of inspired by the head crab for the taller creature. I wanted to come up with an original form/body, but I guess I wasn't too successful with that. I was also inspired by a statue I saw at my school. I bet if I changed the color it'd look less head-crab-ish. :-p

AndyLC- I basically start off with a silhouette and then slowly work in some details. If I see something interesting forming, then I take a minute to think how I can add on to what I have to create a more interesting shape. It's a confusing process. Lots of mistakes are made. I don't have any particular inspirations. I just try to create something horrific/neat/deadly/and so on. But I'm sure I'm subconsciously inspired by movies and other artwork.

More to come!

Just thought I'd add this onto this thread. Watercolors from class. I don't like the first head's shape. >.<
