This is an approach i really need to try. I tend to get caught up too much in detail, which makes it really hard to analyze the overall shape.
I think this would be a very good excercise for that...

Just wanted to let you know andrew that after looking at your portraits for all this time something really clicked in my mind. I haven't been drawing the face/head in terms of planes. I have been drawing it like a big ball...and have been screwing it up. I am nowhere near where I need to be in terms of skill but I wanted to thank you for posting good art that help concepts "click" in my brain. I can really see the simple use of planes on this piece most of all. Thanks again...awesome work.

quick and simple...but effective...the approach in this one is great. i like how you only painted what was needed to define yourself. you left out the detail you are so good at which is a great variation. it is great how you never run out of ideas.the simplicity is so strong in it. nice man

I think thats my fav of all the ones you have done... I don't know why but it just seems to bring out very strong emotions in me. Really well done. (Simple is usually better cuz u capture the essence)
