pencil - http://www.seraphseven.com/rinaldo/bugglefug/gunner.jpg
erm, too late at night for me to say anything constructive. I just finished this. the drawing was done a few months ago. I started colouring it in photoshop. hit some brick walls and got really sick of the way I was doing things. decided to have another go at painter (I have a long and painful history with this app) this is the result.
there are many things I can see as being weak. painter crashed a few times. once loosing a few hours of work I was pretty happy with. add to that how much I was sick of this pic.. and I just kinda abandond it :?
the image was intended as a folio piece for rpg work etc. but ended up more of a mess around in painter. I never "paint" like this normaly, more colour linework. even tho this is still very line based.
I picked up the jeff jones book recently, and you can see a lot of influence with the colour pallete. wanted to try it out:)
for those of you who don't visit sijun. here are a few other things I've done recently. these 2 in painter also. trying to give up photoshop now :x

Woohoo! More Rin art!
I like the colours you chose for the top pic. The lighting on the backpack seems a bit confusing (the light gray area), I dunno. Otherwise, great as usual.

Haha! Who doesn't?

wow, great color pallettes! The technique is excellent too. I like how you compined line-art with a painterly coloring style. What version of photoshop were you using? It seems like the kind of brushes and strokes you're using could be just as well done in PS 7, now that they have all those brush options. Then maybe stability wouldn't be an issue. Anyway, I love thes pieces. I wanna see more!

hmmm... after going through your site, I see that you have more than a mastery of photoshop, so please excuse me if I offended you with the patronizing tone of my comments...

The brown colors in the first image are spectacular. Really nice. I absolutely love the second image..especially the hand. Nice armor design, too. I think maybe you could improve the bottom section of the beard a bit so it looks more natural and 'flowing'. Tiny crit, though. #3is really nice to look at, especially for learning.
I still remember watching one of your WPEs from so long ago...definitely inspiring.

really freakin' cool.
diggit.
since i already asked you about frezzato in the channel, i'll see if you play confrontation or have seen any of the concept art for the minis. I'll find a link if you're not familiar. one of your guys had armor that reminded me of some stuff.
keep it up,

Wow, those're awesome drawings. I love your style. You clearly have developed a grasp of Painter. I tried Painter 7 once and hated it. After seeing all the Painter work on this site I'm thinking of maybe having another go at it.
I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful than that. :p

Very fun and intriguing style. With just a character you can pull me into a whole new world. Its something I feel is very profound in art. Its something I'm striving for in my own art.

Fantastic stuff Rinaldo! I like how you've managed to get an organic feel out of painter. Do you use any overlay material on your tablet? (I do sometimes, cos I find it too slippery without).
Very nice pallette too - I'd say it might be influenced by jeffery jones, but you've made it all your own. Keep it up.

ceenda-hey, yeah some of the lighting is not thought through very well. I'm trying to not get niggly with that stuff atm tho. for better or worse =/. thanks
McNallyism- I originaly tried painter 7 when PS7 had just come out. and sorta decided that I could do all the things I wanted with the new PS anyway. but I think there are still a lot of features that PS is a long way from having. like colour blending, a much more natural looking brush system (even tho I don't really use that kind of thing here)
also some of the brushes I use for linework are much crisper somehow. the anti aliasing is nice and hard.
not to mention thats it seems more fun to "paint" in painter, you do sorta get more of that paint feeling:)
Idunno I had been using PS7 for a while, and I Just got very sick fo the way I was working. even tho there are plently of things I hate about painter too.
I know what you are saying tho. I can do this kinda thing in PS. but at the same time that's cos I am sticking to my old way of working:) not really using the other features of painter yet. hopefully that'll come with time. thanks for the kind words
Atmospheria- thanks- hehe up to you to decide what he is looking at. there is not supposed to be anything in his hand tho :F
BoBo_the_seal- thanks:)
Sketch-thx, it is as finished as it will ever be tho :o unfortunatly.
sparth- :D thanks man.
davi- ur too kind:P and I hardly know how to use painter yet. maybe in a few years I'll do a tut.
Mr.Magnetichead- thx. you are welcome to model it. but I don't have time to do a model sheet or anything unfortunatly.
brasshorsekiller-thanks- yeah the beard gave me trouble. it was like that in the sketch and the shapes worked nicely with everything else. I played with it for ages and then just went back. I'm hopeless when it comes to things like this:(
jerO-I haven't heard or seen any of the thing you mentiond. gimme link :B danke
OS2X-thanks
rimwalker- painter has a horrible learning curve. takes ages to get the hang of it. and then you might find you actuialy don't like it:D but it can be a fun program once you get over the interface and other shortfalls.
swampbug- haha ^_^ I'm glad you think so
JOSHUATHEJAMES/Scotty/Cat/Loga4- thanks for the kind words
Gezstar- I just use the tablet surface. I tried putting papaer on top, but by that time I was sorta used to the slippery feel and didn't really like the resistance.
however I love drawing on paper much more than the wacom. the connection between pencil and drawing surface is part of the fun..probably one of the main reasons I stoped drawing digitaly and went back to paper. just more enjoyable. now I only colour digitaly.
