William b Hand: Most impressive technique, love the way the castle seems semi-transparent.

Tried to find a new idea, but can't say it really looks like a castle. . .
was thinking of a domed fortress hidden on an floating ice mass.

After a series of unfortunate events, the court alchemist came to these conclusions:
a. Moat worms will dig underneath the castle as the grow.
b. An unstable diet of various meat (such as man, horse and cow) will give a moat worm gas.
c. Flatulent moat worms are lighter than air.

hand - bloody beautiful - i LOVE the waves, how did you do them? i love the spray against the plane of the castle's left side, and i really like the colors - gives an ethereal feeling.

sonja - cool.

hamsta - its one of the best things i've seen you do :)

The immorality wizard Sauraus cast the black night out of Castle Eden, now doomed to spend the rest of his days on the never ending seas of grass, he plots his return to the halls.

Many years ago, the founders of the Kingdom of Floydia wandered upon the remains of a gigantic tree. They carved into the stump and converted it into their castle fortress. The kingdom's wizard, Marbius, has cast a spell upon the city allowing it to fly away from any approaching danger, in this case the dragon who once called the stump its home.

Hey guys,
I've been a long time lurker here for a while now, very impressed by all the great work I've seen here, very inspiring.
I liked the them of this one so I decided to give it a try, I just barely started using Painter so this is my first real attempt.

The story to my idea:
Carved from the stone itself, the massive castle soars above the ground casting darkness among the ground. Many have traveled by air to enter this structure but none have returned.

Hey, some late but nice additions!

Mister13: like the light source underneath, intriguing shapes

cbalaskas: nice job of quickly indicating the city below, love the light hitting to top of the "castle"

CSOLDIER7: like a mysterious island shrouded in mists, the circular shape above is a good touch.

Great stuff, everyone

Thought I could kill three birds with one stone:death of a king/floating castle/siege. First attempt at a digital sketch from scratch, and first post of an image here. please forgive me if I've made a mistake in posting! http://www.gibbous.org/~jody/Hotlinkimages/floating_siege_death_of_a_king.jpg

What a topic! This thread is hot. I recognize Bracomadar and Hamsta's names from the COW thread. Great work guys.

Topnotch images from sonja-nine, Oomgawa, William B. Hand and cbalaskas. Each with a different style and approach to the topic. Oomgawa: You said you WEREN'T a painter! Whats tHat!? Just kidding, I like it. :^^:

Thanks, Lukavi!

You may just be the first person to comment on my work here, and after seeing your venomous bird, I consider that quite a compliment!:pump:

As to not being a painter, remember I only started trying my hand at painting, digital or otherwise, within the last few months. I have always been an illustrator/designer, so being "painterly" was not necessary.

And as a disclaimer, I actually started the floating castle image with 3d software to establish the main shape, then painted over it. I guess some folks would consider that cheating?! :bashful:

Anyway, thanks again!

Nice idea, Sheldon.
Liked the way you have trees, etc., growing out from the "figures". Was wondering if they are meant to be stone, if so a bit a cracking or indication of stonework would be a good addition.

yeah man, i definitely need to make them look more like stone. Yep, big stone dudes... i think i could have made the angles on their bodies more angular too.

Thanks for the comment!!
