I've been using Yahoo for a while and I thought it as a pretty good deal at the time. Here's what I was getting:
25 MB disk space
10GB Data Transfer
no PHP support
$8.95/month

Was over at gingerbox and saw that Rey of ninjarage.com was using dreamhost for his site so I thought I'd check it out. For $1 more per month it rocks what I was getting:
2.4 GB disk space
120 GB data transfer
PHP
Host 3 domains (including getting one free)
$9.95/month (it would be $7.95 if I had the money to prepay for a year)

It's part of a deal they are doing through the end of February where they are tripling the disk space and bandwidth (usually 800MB and 40 GB transfer, which is still damn good). I picked up a new site and am transferring my old one to them too (dunno what I'm going to do with two, but I'll take it). Check em out: DreamHost (http://www.dreamhost.com/rewards.cgi?mkrous )

GreedNote: If you do pick them up, I'd mucho appreciate a referral. Just another starving artist.

Found this wehosting solution over at teh Poo, and spoke to this guy on numerous occassions...he's a cool guy....

Some artist being hosted by him are
Randall Whiteis aka brokencow
Matt(aka Isric) and Tom Rhodes

It's a pretty sweet deal..

Yeah, that is a pretty sweet deal. I wonder if there's a minimum standard for the artists they host. Brokencow and Isric ain't chumps when it comes to drawing.

I am currently using moon-hosting.com

The service is absolutly great, they changed owner now and Max (the former owner) who will still keep an eye out so that Tom (the new one) does not fuck it up promised me that the quality of service will be the same or maby even better

I am absolutly happy with them, I got a custom plan with them, 900 mb, 60 GIG transfer, pho,CGI, CPanel, the works

my plan cost $10 a month, and I registered my domain trough them for $10 a year.

but cheap if you ask me, If they would charge thripple a month I would still stick with them cuz the service is great.

edit: and they do dedicated servers to, custom plans only, but I asked max how mutch it would cost for a:

P4 3ghz
1 GIG ram
80 gig HD
1000 GIG Transfer

and It would be 200 bucks a month

bandwidth providers are cogent, level3, internap and quest
and you can choose between an internap only line (10 bucks more expencive), or a mix of the above.

I'm the guy who runs the hosting. There is no set standard. But I do find the artists who enjoy my hosting the most are the ones who need large amounts of space and bandwidth. And believe me those Rhodes Bros and Randall absolutely TEAR up some bandwidth. But it's cool, because it's UNLIMITED :]

Anyways 200 bucks a month for that set up is ALOT of money. I could set up a server like that with more storage for only 90-100 bucks a month. I'm not into dedicated hosting yet, if I fill up my virtuals I'll get some dedicated machines.

To be honest I'm real keen on hooking up people with their own MacMini servers. Those things are made to be co-located and sold as a whole.

Also we are using a datacenter that is hooked up to an AT&T DS-3, UUNET OC-12, , and TimeWarner OC-48. Powerful stuff :]

I use dreamhost, it's been problem-free for about 2 years. their customer service people are really laidback and helpful, too.

I just searched myself :D

The new site is up, we took off the unlimited hosting specs because people were being scared off by it thinking it was a scam. It wasn't but oh well! We put better variety of plans up that will fit any need / budget. Additionally we upgrade accounts for free based on referalls. Bring a few in, and have your account bumped up. :]

I just read my post too... We are on full dedicated servers spread throughout the country on the Peer1 Network. Each machine has AMD 64 3200+, 2 Gigs RAM, two 160 Gig drives, oncomputer, onsite, and offsite backup. 100Mbit full dedicated connections to the net.

We are a bit more robust than we use to be :rendered:
