Ok just a quick question, is it classified as your own work, if you pause a scene in a movie, and draw it/paint it.. And either copy it exactly, or change it but use the same pose or whatever?

i dunno bout that one. well its kinda like drawing from photo ref which u know and i know is not a good thing...other artists will start talking junk to u and question ur originality for doing that. people like when its all original, coming from ur head. yes u need refs but its not good when the majority of a piece of work is all copied, its not original. well thats my opinion, it may be wrong.

if you're simply illustrating a scene from a specific movie, in other words not changing anything but just rendering from a still image, then i would say that it's not completely an original work.

on the other hand, if you're using the imagery from a scene as a reference to something else, such as a certain posing or angle or color scheme, then it starts to become something more your own.

i love watching old samurai movies, and i often pause to sketch out a gesture or something, but if i were to just make a drawing of a movie still, i'd give credit to it in the title.
