I like last yellow one, youy should finish it....Its britney spears from the esquire cover if I'm not mistaken, right?
theres a nice variety of light value there
to make it better i think you could throw some more darker values though, like the little girl thats alot better.

I can see your ar doing lots of
ref work wich is very good, (I should do
more of them he he) and your shading tecnique
is well on its way, but ill recomed your to try to
make some only-line focused drawigs, force your
self to pull out volumen only with lines,
you could make some more imagination suff too,
Iv discoverd, that when I do now non ref work, I start
seen wich ones are my problem areas, and that way when I
get back to study from refs, I focus in the things
I saw I was lacking in my imagination work,
I can see your have a good chunck of raw skills
now make some imagination studies, and post em;
see ya in the next update. :^^:

Thank you for your comments, maxetormer.
Indeed, I have been doing a lot of ref work. Mostly because I haven't been drawing for the past five years and I need to work those muscles, so to speak.

hey there, looks like I've missed loads of new updates in your sb. I think this is looking very good, the facial studies are marvelous.
I especially liked this last one. Thou the contrast around the eyes looks a little lonely, it takes to much of the attention.
My 2 cents.

Haribubba, beautiful stuff, I love the master copy studies from last year.
One thing I'm noticing, I'm assuming some of the portrait stuff is from life, like the lady on newsprint in red. One thing to look out for are the facial features, it seems when you have reference you lay everything in fine, but when it comes to trusting your own eye, some of the angles and features line up weird. For instance, the conte on newsprint, her face is doing this with the eyes, nose, and mouth... ( .
The grape oil painting looks nice, it's much better to try to photograph without the flash and as dead on to the painting as possible. Any angles and flash will cause a tremendous amount of glare or wash everything up. As for the painting itself, the edges on the grapes are off, everything seems pasted on, especially with the white border, except for the furthest left grape edge. It's better to probably lay in the background a bit first, and then lay the grapes on top, working fat over lean (Thin paint first, then thicker applications as you move further into the painting). Most important thing to remember when painting is watch for values and edges, and then color last. The values and edges will make or break a painting. No matter how beautiful the color is, the edges and values will kill it.
Good work, keep the stuff coming.

January 8th, 2006, 09:59 PM
mmmm revived my thread thank you :)
makes me happy though that you thought the conte/newsprint was from life, it was from a much smaller photograph! while i did recognize all the the angular flaws (albeit too late ><), makes my heart flutter that it doesnt look like a photo!
thank you for the painting tips as well. i really never painter much before then. drawing is soooo much easier and soooo much easier to clean up after. it was my second try at oils, and probably only my fourth or fifth try at painting in general. its important for me to try and learn different mediums. i learn everything on my own through just trying and its very helpful when i get tips such as yours!

Nice style and clean rendering:teeth: Keep it up! I agree on the previous posts. You have some problems with the angles especially the noses ... they seem bent to the right or to the left. The eyes of the lady on blue paper seem to be off the axe and I think there is a problem at the base of her nose in this drawing -- i think it's just the shadows... i think you can repair it pretty easy
