Has anyone read any of the 3 books? I just bought Dante's Inferno today and I'm just about to read it. I'm wondering what you guys think of it.

Thanks for the replies! :)

I thought Dante's Inferno was awesome. There's some very funny satire in there. It helps to know the history of the times. For example, a lot of the people he sees suffering in the different levels of hell (the ones he specifically names) were actually people who lived during his time period. Obviously you can figure out what he thought about them . . . >:D

If you let your imagination run free, they are great books. On the art tip, check out Gustave Dore's woodcut illios for the poem.

Here's a pretty good link: http://www.scathach.de/index.htm

I first read the Inferno in high school, when one of my art teachers had us illustrate it. It's a great source for imagery. Try to get a translation with good notes and commentary, because the more you understand about rennaisance politics and classical literature the better.
