Question about paint.

I'm soon going to start painting with acrylics (Golden fluid acrylics) and need some advice on a basic palette. I have no experience with paint and am confused about what paints I need, could you guys suggest some good basic colors that would cover both the skin tones and earth tones and anything other colors I might need starting out. I certainly don't won't to buy every paint Golden sells starting out, since am not sure it's a medium am going to like anyway. Any book recommendations you might have would help also. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
