Halo everyone, I am a senior in highschool, applying to art schools and have a few questions. As of now, i have been planning on going to SCAD for my first year, and then transfering to a better art college (say... Chicago, or RISD) and eventually i would like to end up in Cali at the Art center... anyways.. that's the plan as of now.

Now I have changed my plan a little, because i have heard that SCAD really isn't that great of an art school, so i'm rushing to apply to Chicago on time (it has fewer requirements than RISD) I need a portfolio containing 12 peices of work. I was wondering if any of these peices could be sketches from my sketchbook (I feel that some of my best work is done in my sketchbook, and currently don't have much free time to work on anything else) I know for scad drawings such as this are acceptable, but does anyone know if it's a good idea to put these in? or should i just try my best to avoid it?

Generally speaking you want to put only your very best stuff, but if your sketches have a different style then you might put them in to show variety. You can probably check their website for recommendations on what to include (or you could call and ask them).

On a side note, my suggestion would be apply to the school you really want to be attending. You can still apply to others as a backup, but you never know, your first choice might accept you, even if it's a tough school like RISD or ACAD.

Good Luck.

Always always put in your best work. It might be a worthwhile idea to attach sheets of your roughs for the finished project on the back of the piece to show your thought processes prior to getting to the finished but never hesitate to put your best stuff forward.
