You know I've been struggling with a problem.

Is there any simple way for someone to explaine to me how long legs should be?
jsut a quick way to refrence if they're long enough? or too long for that mannor? like upper leg lenth etc.

I think the best answer I've heard is that they should be long enough to reach the ground. Another one is that the distance from heel to crotch is equal to that from crown to crotch.

ooh good one.

so from the top of the head to the crotch is the same as the foot to crotch?

Ideally. Your mileage may vary.

Yeah, that's one of the canonical proportions. Like any other rule, exceptions abound, but they're a good place to start. (Strictly speaking, it's not the crotch but the pubic bone that's the halfway point.)

In most cases these apply to the standing figure, so other poses or foreshortening may render them difficult or useless.

Some others, FWIW:

top of head to bottom of chin = bottom of chin to nipple line (helpful for locating breasts)

top of head to pit of neck = pit of neck to bottom of sternum = bottom of sternum to navel

base of nose is halfway between brow line and chin

eye is about halfway down the head

front of ear is halfway across the side of the head

for standing figure, elbow is in line w/ bottom of rib cage, wrist w/ pubic bone

hip bone (trochanter) to knee = knee to floor

for sitting figure, top of leg is halfway mark
