Hi,

What do people think of TFT/LCD monitors with regards to color representation in programs such as Photoshop?

How do they compare to CRT monitors?

Thanks.

we had this question some times. Under earlier circumstances I would have said "go for CRT". But having now some new tests there are some monitors that are good - even better than my Barco - and hardware calibrated. If you´re serious about colours you´ll need a hardware-calibrated monitor - be it TFT or CRT. All the other monitors are more or less suited for standard work but he calibration is the important thing.

There are some cheap ones from LaCie TFT around, that aren´t bad but there´s a bunch of good one out now that really kick ass. We´ve got an Eizo CG21 here and there are some others out that are as good as this one. Together with and EyeOne Calibrator you´ve got a perfect unit for colours ...

But I´m just a prepress madman ;).

I don't see any reason to pay over the odds for a monitor that struggles to keep up with the visual clarity and accuracy that my current 19 inch CRT has. It was only £120 as well.

I just don't see the selling point behind TFTs...

Now that this thread is here, how can i re-calibrate my monitor....
It has gotten so dark, that i can barely see anything on it...

I have tried the Graphics card color corrections and Adobe Gamma and over time it has just got worse....

i want to return the state of my monitor to the day i first used it...
Any suggestions?

I just don't see the selling point behind TFTs... Well, as long as you're more like me...someone who probably won't see a big difference...then you will want a TFT monitor so you can get rid of that big ugly box which is eating space on your desk.
I've got a 17" CRT right now but would like a GOOD 19" (or larger) TFT...

bryan: you sure it isn't a hardware error of some sort?

bRyaN, you monitor might just be going old.
crts tend to loose luminescence with age.
when did you buy it?

What's up Ponte, how's everything bro?

i bought it about 2 years ago..

THe thing is i knew i messed it up..by fooling around with settings to often...

I might just buy a new monitor, but i also would like to know which would be a decent monitor for a reasonable price...

Cheers for the reponse's.

I've got the same monitor problems as bRyaN, thats why I was thinking of splashing out on a new monitor, preferably TFT, as I've been impressed by their sharpness.

Any good brands out there?
