Not sure if 1 hour per image is speedpainting, but wth..
I could use some constructive criticism on these. As a beginner, I'm trying to copy frames from movies, and these are the first two I made. There are some obvious mistakes in shape and proportion, and I didn't know in what order to paint the values, so they're kinda messy. Still, I bet you see mistakes that my blind eyes no longer see, so tell me what you think.
All tips/ideas are appreciated.
( sorry for my english, sometimes I use the wrong words : )

EDIT: Is it ok to post screenshots from movies? If not, I'll take them down.

That is a good movie! Keep practicing, they're looking pretty good so far. I would try to color things by yourself though. maybe look at the frames or jsut a sketch that you drew and paint it without reference. taht way youll learn alot more and get better faster, rather than just "painting by numbers" so to speak.

Yeah, you're right. I will do that. However, I learned from other threads that it's good to draw and paint from reference to make a library of lighting and shapes in your mind. To pay attention to what you really see, and record it not only with your eyes, but also with your hands. It seemed smart, and it's fun. A bit like lifedrawing and learning colour theory at once, since I don't paint on top of the original nor pick colours from it.
But I agree, it's more challenging to start from scratch.
Good point, thanks.

use reference as studies. everyone has done it. i used to think it was bad practice, then i realized my art didn't look right anding doing this helped.
dragongx,
are you saying if you copy a master's painting as a study, you are "painting by numbers" and learning nothing? i can see your point, if a person is using the image to sample their colors from, but if they're just looking at it and trying to reproduce it, it's a great learning experience.

I thought he was sampling colors. Its always a good learnign experience to copy a masters painting when youre learning. I do not discourage that..

I like them, and think that they look great for speedpaints. The second one could use less of his head blending into the background, though.
Umm...Sorry to sound like an idiot when I say this, but: "What movie is that from?" I'm thinking that it's Leon, The Proffessional (I've never seen it), but the character looks like the DVD cover.
