Anyone play City of Heroes! Cause I love it! Send me an email, we'll go fight crime together. Anyway, just as a fan of the game I came up with some fanart/concept art, because I don't really work for them, but it isn't fanart either since, they aren't in the game...some kind of myseterious middle ground of artwork...very new!

Thank you for posting and welcome to here. I went to your website and saw a lot of neat work. Have you ever done or considered sequentials? Or maybe a children's book? Your art to me has a lot of appeal for a children's book. Grittier you could apply your monster art to something darker, like Heavy Metal or Metal Hurlant.

First off thanks for looking, always great to have people, especially other artists, look at my work. Have you ever done or considered sequentials? Or maybe a children's book? Well, back in the day I toyed with comic books alot, drawing my own, but I never really liked the pencil work of comics, bacuse they're so unfinished, on the basis of getting them done quickly(with some few excepetions out there I'm sure). So I never pursued it, no. Children's books, yes, more so. I am probly better suited to that type of work. I have illustrated one book recently out called "The Mockingbird's Ballad", by Doak Mansfield.
Mockingbird's Ballad (http://www.wheatmark.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=BS&Product_Code=1587363836&Category_Code=LIT)
He just contacted me one day to do it, and I didn't say no, so that is that. I truly don't think of myself as a pro artist, I don't even come close to the skill of those on this board even, but I do love it! I don't do sketches much, I like to make all the arguements on the paper and make it work. But, anyway, enough about me.

I can't believe that nobody else has commented on your work so far. Some artists are able to give finished pencils a good look to them in sequential art. Simon Bisley, for example, had a series in Heavy Metal called, "Fistful of Blood" that is very convincing. He did a colour cover and carious colour pieces, but the interior is quite monochrome, and very well done. Years ago I heard that Bisley could turn out 6 pages a day of comic art, finished, and that was painted work.

Dang 6 painted pages a day, that's serious busniess, maybe he was single at the time and in prison, haha, just kidding. Anyway I've started a new colored pencil (really the only medium I use for colored stuff) peice to try and push my abilites, since cheking out all the way cool artwork on this site. So look out for it in a week or so.

Thanks. I'll be honest with you, because that's the way people ought to be, I personally don't like digital artwork. I know everyone hates me now. When I look at a work of art and come to realize it's digital(you can tell pretty easy) no matter how good it is, I just feel let down. The images produced digitally can be astounding, that goes without saying, but what is art with no orignal, no tagible solid medium, no master. Oh, you can print it out, sure, but that's a print. The original(if it can be called that) is a series of zeros and ones interpreted and displayed on the screen, forever out of reach, can't hold it. It just hurts me. I don't care for it, there is no master to refer back to, no canvas or paper or anything like that. So love it if you want to, that's fine, people like different things, but I can't go that road, just feels off, a little less than what art deserves to be. That's my mind on the subject. And again, thanks for the comments, I'll post a new drawing today. (just finished, need to scan.)

Don't feel bad, nobody hates you, and you are not the only one that isn't a fan of digital art. I too am not a fan of digital work and, in my opinion, there are very few capable of pulling off a good piece of digital work, many others are basically cloning the style. Many of the conventions of digital work that people here rail against anyway often are exactly what you see in print (such as filters).

I have never really gotten a good hold of any medium beyond the basics. All my work is eaither pencil or colored pencil. I tried paints for a bit, but's it's messy and I can't grasp the concepts well. A pencil is easy, you just put it down, it already has a color, then you mix them on the paper. Anyway, it's colored pencil, the same as the rest of my stuff. Thanks for looking.

so you didnt succeed right away with paints so you went back to colored pencil? Your limiting yourself.. you have to fail a few times before you get it right. Commonly known as the learning process...Only reason Im saying this is I like your stuff, and Id like to see some of your paints.

I wouldn't say I quit right away, I even went as far as to invest in a number of paints and brushes, but never liked what I could do with them, and more so the "wet" application never did anything for me, with colored pencil/pencil I can put my hand on there and move around with the piece and suffer no loss or smear. Limit, maybe if you want to call it that, but I figure if you got something you enjoy, go with it, perfect it as best you can, so I'm workign in that direction.

Thanks to everyone's kind words. Here's a little something I did for a magazine article. They wanted some revisions, but I said "for ten dollars you don't get revisions, run it or don't won't hurt my feelings." I figured I'd give them an hour of my time for $10, which is all they pay, they're gonna run it.

Ok, so I am clearly not as talented as MANY of the artists here, but I will continue to press forward with my own work. I have begun work on an old school Dragon Warrior Type RPG, which I will do the programming for as well. Here are a bunch of characters for it, I will be updating it often on my web site.

All my colors are done with Colored Pencil. Prismacolor. I use a heavy pressure technique with a watercolor paper, that gives me a lot of saturation, comes off looking really nice I think.

Fun pieces. All of your work seems to have a playful and humorous aspect. Even though the context of most of your pieces are more removed from reality, I can certainly appreciate the skill in the rendering. This is especially apparent in the Bug Warrior piece and its detail shot. My personal favourite is the first piece. I think the centered composition really works for it and it's simply humorous to me. I really like the way the expressions of the penguins show a carefree attitude while the polar bear is slightly frowning and focused on something. The detail of the bear holding the penguin's head, directing its gaze, just made me laugh. It's as if the bear is saying "Look over there. Don't you see it?" and the penguin is holding its fin up with its beak slightly open almost as if he's saying "Oh, okay. I see it now, big fella."

I love your style all round. A few things I noticed, the penguins in several of the pics seem... almost flattish, less three d than say the polar bear. Though that could easily be put down to a style thing ^_^.
And I definitely agree about the children's book or comic thing, you've got such a beautiful unique style it'd really bring a story to life.
